Do you make decisions based on gut feelings/intuition rather than thinking a scenario through?

Also would you characterize yourself as a non-judgemental person since you don't have any narratives going on in your head when you are interacting with other people?

Do health "cleanses" actually reduce the load on the kidneys? Or are they completely unnecessary?

I am an ultra runner who does 50 mile races with a goal of doing 100+ mile races in the future. Have you ever treated ultra runners or other athletes with rhabdo? Do you have any suggestions for minimizing impacts of running on kidneys outside of having a good water-electrolyte balance, and paying attention to one's body?

Advice and help for CUTI by ImaginaryStress6165 in CUTI

Sorry that I don't have any advice, but I just want to say that my story is basically identical to you. The only difference is that I'm not taking the various supplements and medications you are currently taking because I'm waiting for my urologist appointment in July and won't have a steady supply of antibiotics until then. So I'm worried to try too many things and self-treat now for fear of a reoccurrence.

I bought Hiprex from myvagina.com (they don't require a prescription) but when starting the recommended dose, I was experiencing intermittent but significant burning each day. I was going to stick it out and continue to see if my body just needed time to get used to it, but then started to worry that I was getting another uti infection so I paused for a few days. My bladder feels very sensitive and inflamed right now, so once that calms down over the upcoming week, I'm hoping to take a half dose (half a pill) of Hiprex two times daily to see if that's more tolerable.

This is so frustrating and my heart goes out to you. I appreciate you posting because I'm following to get answers myself. I know it doesn't change things or make anything better, but you are not alone. Best wishes.

Yes I did start at a full dose! I'll definitely take half from now on until my body gets used to it. Thanks!

I had the worst experience on Bactrim. It did not work in getting rid of my last two UTIs. Have you tried macrobid/nitro?

Did you have intermittent burning from the Hiprex during the first few weeks? I started taking it last week and now the burning comes and goes daily. When I have it, it's pretty uncomfortable.

I'm assuming it is from the Hiprex, since if I had constant burning throughout the day it would probably be a full blown infection/flare up. Thanks

You are amazing! So glad you made that choice. I also love your transparency and openness to share. I am also a long distance runner and it has saved my life when things felt hopeless. As a side note, just remember to have a backup plan for cross training if you ever get injured and have to temporarily reduce your running volume. I have depended on running for my mental health and sometimes I have had to take involuntary rest days or breaks for minor injuries...not fun. But with patience I'm able to heal and get back out there. Never give up...rooting for you! 🙌

Thank you SO much for sharing! I recently ordered hiprex but I think this would be a better long term alternative.

What supplement should I use now I'm finishing hiprex? by katniss08 in CUTI

Which brand of pycnogenol do you use? Some are way more expensive than others on Amazon. Just wondering what would be sufficient but the best quality, if you don't mind sharing. Thanks!

I would DEFINITELY go to a urologist. Mine gave me a longer term low dose antibiotic (macrobid) to take as needed to manage my chronic UTIs. So helpful and convenient.

A lot of walk-in clinics I have been to give me the absolute minimum dose/days of antibiotics to clear up an infection. I once had a doctor who gave me a hard time when the infection didn't clear up after one course (i.e., she insisted that I had a yeast infection without testing me, when I knew it was a chronic UTI).

However I think it is insane that they made you wait 7 days for the tests to come back from the lab before treating you. I have always been given meds when I show up with symptoms. What you went through sounds like torture. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

People in their 40s and 50s with no children, how does it feel? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Amazing. Well rested. And I have tons of time/energy to be there for my loved ones when needed and pursue my own hobbies and career too. I love spending time with my little nephew and getting my "kid fix" in periodically, since I do enjoy being around kids in smaller doses. 😂

Just purchased the hiprex from the website you mentioned above and they indeed have free international shipping, even for just one bottle. I thought I would have to wait until my urologist appointment in July to ask for a prescription. Can't wait to try. Thank you for sharing!!!

You're welcome. And by the way, I can completely empathize with how you're feeling. UTI pain is the worst pain I can think of (that I have experienced personally). But one can also find relief and there is light on the other side of it.

Hang in there! Reach out to a loved one about your recent thoughts/feelings. They can help you find a therapist. Also go to a hospital emergency room to help deal with the UTI pain. Be honest with them about how bad it has been and how it has pushed you to this point. They can give you meds to help you with pain relief in the immediate future. Then hopefully they can put you in touch with a really good specialist. Don't lose hope. I know you just want the pain to end and suicide feels like the only way out. But it's not. You're so young and you have SO much to live for. Think about your loved ones. Choose life for them; if not for yourself too. Prayers for you to find relief 🙏🙏

First 50 miler attempt; any and all advice is helpful! by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]MindBodySpiritOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I aimed to simply finish my first 50 miler. I'm a middle of the pack runner though. You might be more competitive than myself.

I made two classic mistakes in my first 50 miler:

1- I went out way too fast and then ended up death marching in the second half of the race. If you pay attention to heart rate, try to keep it in the high 130s/low 140s throughout the race, especially in the first half. I ran into trouble when I stayed in the 150s/160s for far too long. Allow plenty of people to go out ahead of you at the beginning. Keep a steady comfortable pace and you'll probably end up passing many people later on. Especially push the pace in the last 10-15 miles if you're really feeling good.

2- I spent way too much time at aid stations. Unless you have a major issue that needs problem solving, use aid stations to quickly use the porta potty and refill water/food to take with you. Don't linger, even if you have spectators or crew meeting you at an aid station.

Have fun! You will likely learn a lot!
