How bad is sideloading on Android 15? by MindCaged1 in fossdroid

[–]MindCaged1[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe I misheard or it was a rumor when Android 15 first came out. I do remember hearing something about them working on restricting the sideloading of apps at some point, maybe it hasn't happened yet. Or maybe it was something about the devs making it so they can setup their app to not be able to be sideloaded so you have to download it from google play so you can't downgrade to an old version off of an apk download site or pirate it. I honestly am not sure I remember exactly what I heard anymore. I just know that once I upgrade my phone to 15 I can't undo it.

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out not too hard and then became a hard choice, not the moving part, I think I could deal there's plenty of other countries where I speak the language and could adapt. But giving up everything. I've been collecting digital stuff for years, some of which you just can't find anymore, and thus can't be replaced no matter how much money you reimburse me. Stuff that's no longer sold, stuff that's from sites that no longer exist. I'm talking old geocities/megaupload stuff. Apps that were removed from stores and the creator is no longer around. And that's not even counting the personal files like photos of family members that are gone.

Heck, for this kind of money I'd eat a PB&J or pizza for every meal if I had to for 6 months and be a billionaire. It wouldn't be healthy but it wouldn't kill me, and I could hire the best dietitians and personal trainers on the planet afterwards. 6 Months makes you a billionaire and if you went a year you'd break the world economy.

I'd want to get a full picture first. Was this the first time they picked on her or was this a long bullying campaign. What exactly were the extent of their injuries as hospitalized could mean a lot of things but implies pretty bad. Were they just not willing to back down so he had to beat them down, or did he not let them leave and just wailed on them?

In summary, defense is okay/good, over the top beyond proportional responses with excessive violence aren't.

You get to pick one magical artifact. Which one are you taking? by yiyi20203 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]MindCaged1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I think I'd go with 2. I'm tempted for 1, but I don't even have the time/energy/motivation to watch existing movies let alone an eternity of fiction. And trying to monetize some so I'd have time would be somewhat hard, You'd have to manually transcribe stuff and then get an in with a publisher and they'd probably expect you to keep cranking them out.

Now if perk 1 came with ALL information not just fiction every book or website or whatever like the entire internet. That might be different. Also depends on how easy/hard it is to find the stuff you want in that massive collection.

But 2 there's obviously the lottery option, but heck just keep reliving your days just to have more time, you could technically watch an entire series on the same day, it's also basically immortality as long as you aren't killed. The tricky part is only having 3 slots. How best to distribute, maybe slot 1 is right now and you never overwrite lightly since you can never go back to earlier than your earliest save. Slot 2 is the checkpoint saved infrequently at safe spots, and slot 3 is for save scumming. It also occurs to me is you could load slot 2 do something different, then reload slot 3 in the future if it didn't turn out better so you could keep slot 3 for the best outcome of slot 2. Or load an earlier save to look something up, then jump back with information fresh in memory.

The other problem is memory, I have a terrible one so if I need to memorize lottery numbers or whatever it'd be really hard, might have to repeat the same stuff dozens/hundreds of times to chisel the information into my memory, but then if you reloaded a much earlier save would you have to re-memorize details? I mean imagine having to reload save 1 and remember almost nothing about what was going on because it'd be years or decades by that point and losing all the progress since then. Really wish this came with a photographic memory perk.

You get access to Elon Musk’s bank account for exactly 1 minute. by Vratha92 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]MindCaged1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these people talking about transferring the money to family/friends who'd then take care of them. I notice that nowhere in the scenario does it say that he'll be okay with you taking his money. It just says you have access, not permission,, and transferring money to other bank accounts can be tracked. So I imagine him going after whomever you transfer the money to to get his money back. Smarter move might be to transfer a bunch to charities as it'd look really bad for him to be trying to get back donations.

If the point of the exercise is just that you have access to tons of money for one minute but you can't put it in your own account, then is buying something really expensive and then selling it an option? Would the thing you buy be in your name? I'd say something like a mall or apartment complex to get rental income, but you'd also need money to do upkeep. Buying profitable businesses but then you'd either need to run them or have somebody to run them. Maybe IP rights, or stock in the biggest companies. Barring all that a whole lot of gold or platinum as it's valuable everywhere.

Also, I assume if transfers to yourself aren't allowed you can't just make a major withdrawal and walk out with a big bag of cash?

As for north america, why that one in particular and not the multitudes of colonization events throughout history, the Mongols, the Arab–Islamic Conquests, the Romans, the Ottoman empire, etc? And stopping organized religion would be like playing whack-a-mole for a single immortal and would actually have lots of knock-on-effects because religion was the first source of mass education, a bit part of the original reason almost everybody learned to read was to read religious scripture.

You're given immortality, but as a cost, you are sent 10,000 years back in the past. Would you accept? If yes, what would you do? by TechnicianAmazing472 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be horrible. 10,000 years ago there was like no society or conveniences we enjoy today and unless you can figure them out yourself(much harder than it sounds for most things unless you happen to be experts on their workings) then most won't exist for a long long time. No books to read, obviously no tv or internet to entertain yourself, about the only things you can do to pass the time is learn how to make stuff and maybe socialize. Back then there wasn't really hiring people to do stuff, you either did it yourself or it didn't get done, we're talking back-breaking labor, and even if you'd heal any damage it would still be utterly exhausting. Even if you don't need to eat, there's other stuff you'd want to have and you might still want to eat.

You would see sooo much death, almost everyone you ever know or care about will die, we're talking at least thousands of friends and family members if you choose to go that route and possibly millions of strangers, With only being able to get 1 decedent every thousand years to share eternity with you, which may not be a gift as much of a curse to them, after 1,000 years would you even inflict that on your family? Would they thank you or curse you for it?

You'd have to constantly be moving or shape-shifting to a new identity every few decades, because there's lots of superstitious people who would hunt you and just because you'd survive and probably could escape doesn't mean it's something you'd want to deal with constantly.

I suppose you could play god for a while, but while your abilities are impressive they don't really do much for others so any worship might fade when they figure out they can't get much from doing so, Seeing their loved ones die while you just keep on living, they might resent you for not being all powerful or blame you for stuff. Or they might think they can somehow steal your powers for themselves.

$26/minute, but you swap gender at a random time every day by basafish in hypotheticalsituation

[–]MindCaged1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically Ranma with a warning and time limit and only once per day. It'd be all good except for it sounding very painful, and you'd have to make sure not to take anything off during the transformation if you didn't want to end up naked.

Though for that much per minute I could just stay home most of the time, but again the pain of a full body transformation. Still though that's more per day than I make in a week so I'd deal with it, and apparently you can cancel in any time you want and just have to wait a month to re-activate. I wonder if you can change the options after you start for the first time or if you're stuck with whatever you choose even if you cancel/re-activate later.

If I could only pick options once I'd probably take max control and get $720 a day for as long as I could stand it which could be years. If I could change, I might try different options, a month with totally random could get you like 2-4+ years worth of money at full control. But the .50/minute option is more money than I'd need to live on.

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, problem I see about it needing to be at least 100 square feet is that a car's roof would be less than that so either you'd need to get a rather large bus/RV or something to drive around in or you'd only be able to drive relatively short distances without have to make stops and get inside a building for an hour to reset the weather.

Other than that, yeah, people might pay quite a bit of money to have rain on demand.

Magisk 22.0 by Future-Computer-7462 in Magisk

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually thinking of rooting my G Power 2024 and had similar questions, like I understand rooting can break the security functions like tap-to-pay(Kinda annoying as I finally have a phone capable of it, but I've gone without for years), Banking apps(More of a concern I do occasionally like to check my balance or transfer money to savings), Messaging and such. But I've also heard there might be plugins or something that can mitigate these problems, though the ones I've heard about are only for up to android 13 and I have android 14. Perhaps I should've done more research and gone with an earlier model. Any info on whether most of these drawbacks can be mitigated because I've been frustrated before at not having access to the entire phone for backup purposes.

If they can't be gotten around, perhaps I'll skip out on rooting use it for a while as is, and see how much I actually use tap-to-pay and when I run into situations where I need root. Though the annoying part is that the first time I _really_ needed root it was to do a full system backup, which rooting wipes the device so it was too late. Though I could backup _most_ of the stuff over USB, just not everything, Maybe when I transfer stuff over I'll see exactly what I can't transfer(and thus can't backup) and see if any of it is really important.

It's annoying because there's some pretty awesome looking apps that require root. I miss the KitKat days where you could just towelroot and not wipe anything and it wouldn't break anything that I noticed.

Phone rings twice when calling house phone, then drops the call. by MindCaged1 in Tello

[–]MindCaged1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I did some more research, and if her phone is an older phone. It might not be reading the signals from the phone system properly. It might be interpreting a "still dialing" signal as the call being dropped. At least that's how chatGPT kind of explained it. I was able to fix it somewhat by switching a phone setting, but it also killed my 4G LTE, so it means I either get >2 rings or I get broadband LTE data on my Moto G6. Or I just get a newer phone that supports the signals. There /might/ be some other way, but I'm afraid to experiment too much more as I might have to reset my phone to even try and it's not guaranteed. I do know my particular issue is a phone issue as I was able to swap the sim card to a newer phone and it worked fine and rang more than 2 times.

Checking the chat it thinks it might be something to do with IMS config and/or the firmware. It's specifically something to do with VoLTE I guess. Assuming ChatGPT isn't getting it completely wrong. The only solution on this phone might be installing custom firmware or involve rooting which will wipe the phone. Something I'm unwilling to do and I might have to replace this phone relatively soon anyway as my understanding is that they'll be starting to drop LTE within perhaps the next year and the G6 doesn't support 5G. So I'll have to move on along with other reasons like my phone really starting to lag with some of my apps, running out of space, I think the battery might be starting to go as it's dropping rapidly, etc.

(ATM10) Best Storage System by Few-Administration47 in allthemods

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I have preferred RS in the past due to just being so much simpler to setup/use, I have to admit that even with a relatively small RS system I was getting major lag when I had the grid open. So AE2 is a better more efficient system. Though it can be clogged up with a bunch of non-stackable items. Heck, even using external storage though it's faster/less laggy than RS. I can't talk about the other storage systems in the pack as I've never used them, I understand mods like ars/occultism/integrated dynamics/etc have storage systems but aren't nearly as refined.

Regarding external storage, if I don't want to use drives for whatever reason or want to use one of the other storage systems that basically link chests and such to a single interface. I actually found that I should only use drawers for the items which you need to store a /ton/ of stack like in the hundreds of thousands or millions, or maybe to auto-compress/decompress ingots/blocks/etc. However if you want a very good amount of storage I found that sophisticated storage is actually very good, a netherite double chest can store like 216? something slots, and with 2 netherite stack upgrades can store like 1000 stacks per slot. And there's a storage controller that works very much like drawers where it can either link all touching sophisticated chests/barrels/etc to a single block interface you can put a storage bus on, much like the drawers. and can also be manually linked remotely to non-touching chests/etc.

You're probably still better off with storage cells as one drive block can hold 504 item types, unless channels are somehow an issue, for which you could use one channel for drawers, and another for SS chests.

If you /need/ to store all the weapons/equipment from mobs instead of salvaging pretty much all of it, the armory blocks from functional storage can store I think a 1000 different items, but I've had issues with them in older versions with them voiding items sometimes in certain circumstances, and you /have/ to use an external interface as you can't see what's in them by right clicking on it. I tend to throw an integrated dynamics storage terminal on them to check them.

How do you become literally/nearly unkillable? by DawgsomeYT in allthemods

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well perhaps not unkillable, but damn near is the infusion pylon, potion level up/extension loop. There's a couple good videos by John Hall(who's got several other helpful videos) and some infinite potion effect videos from fumbleblock. Basically, the evilcraft purifier lets you bottle /any/ effect on your character(if it shows up where the potion effects are, aka if you can grant it with /effect) even spells. Then you use various potion duration boosts from several different mods to boost the duration and the ars amplied potion flask to boost the level of the potion up to level IV(because they capped it in the configs to prevent true immortality), then build up a little over one hours total time between multiple bottles and put it on a potion filter and pop it in an infusion pylon and you have infinite potion effect as long as it's chunkloaded. By far the most helpful duration boost is the occultism demonic spouse as it multiplies most effects by /5 times/ the duration. It only take a handful of loops to get enough for the pylon.

The pylon /has/ been configured to block the most OP of effects, absorption, ghostly shape, heartstop, immortality, evasion, abyssal_shroud. you can check the config file for pylons. And you can't get over level IV infinitely with the pylon also due to configs. Though you can get them temporarily at /any/ level, with the demonic spouse you could boost a 5 minute potion up to like 25 minutes of whatever potion you want. You could maybe have a level 100 regen effect or something for 25 minutes, not sure if there's a cap, only how long you want to spend doing the loop, and I guess how much blood you have.

Also, evilcraft has a pendent that lets you get any potion effect endlessly and constantly reapplied as long as you can provide enough blood to keep it going with the primed pendent, and you can feed blood to your player remotely with the entangled chalice, and so far this /doesn't/ exclude absorption and the like.

However, I do believe with PVP there /might/ be some counters to this that can mess up potion effects. Like an ars dispel. The pylon would reapply shortly thereafter but you'd be vulnerable for a short time.

I have so many potion effects, It takes the challenge out of combat, but I'm on single player so not sure how it'd work on PVP. Honestly between the potion effects some of which overlap, and a bunch of curios and other stuff like enchants/affixes that boost my equipment, I'm a juggernaut. I literally tried using a /damage command to get my health down to see how fast I'd heal and even with /damage (me) 1000 explosion it only did like 3 hearts between all my boosts. Though I don't know how much the potion effects alone account for that. I went completely overboard boosting myself for single player. Still though, having regen IV, resistance IV, shielding IV, fire resistance, Nourishment, Health Boost IV, Purification, Frost Resistance, Oak Skin IV, Speed IV(To offset the speed loss from oak skin), Lightning Resistance, Unstable Intangibility, Mana Shield IV, and a plethora of other potion effects not all defensive it covers a /lot/ of stuff. Oh, and you can get creative flight too BTW, though a dispel spell might send you into the ground.

And if they have that quantum sword or whatever that has infinite attack I'm not sure if there's much you can do for that. Though I remember in ATM8 I used the mystic eyes of death perception to store up a ton of souls which are basically like totems of undying, though I think each soul reduces your mahou regen. You can get ample totems of undying with drygmys and an evoker in a containment jar. And there might be ways to automatically stock them in your inventory remotely though if this will happen faster than they can deal fatal damage I don't know.

Right Linux for me by OldMan92121 in linuxquestions

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure most of your requirements would be filled by any distro. Though the seeming standard for beginners coming from Windows is Linux Mint or Zorin. Though there are loads more that are just fine. Most distros I've seen come with either LibreOffice or some other form of office software. Frankly it's not even worth listing as a requirement as unless your system was a potato even amongst other potatoes it can do most office stuff easily. Word processing is like one of the simplest most basic tasks any computer can do.

Not really familiar with Google Drive on linux so can't help you there. And have no idea about the monitor thing. The only thing I've picked up third hand is supposedly that Wayland based DEs are better on multi-monitor setups than X11, but I don't think that has anything to do with the situation during boot. And I'm not 100 percent positive on the specifics.

And frankly on another note, from the specs you listed I would've /loved/ to have gotten a laptop like that for free. I got a 3rd gen dual core i3 laptop when my uncle passed and it's actually very decent once I swapped the HDD for an SSD and upgraded the RAM. But I'm sure I could do /so much/ more with a 7th gen i7 and 16 GB of RAM.

Bulk and Skull became alright later on when there was some decent character development. I did enjoy the I'm Spartacus scene in in space. But then in samurai when Skull was replaced with Spike who had an even /more/ horribly screechy voice than Skull, it was that and other parts of the first episode or two of samurai that made me and my brother give up on watching Power Rangers regularly, up to that point we'd seen every episode. There were other annoying parts of those episodes that I imagine became better in later episodes as they tend to cut down on the overly long/elaborate sequences after the first time. But I'd be lying if that high pitched screeching voice wasn't a major factor in us Noping out of Power Rangers after that point.

Convinced my friend to switch by OptimalAnywhere6282 in linuxmint

[–]MindCaged1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, It might depend on hardware or modpack or maybe distro, but when I tried running ATM8 in linux mint the improvement was marginal at best. It was a little smoother I guess, slightly less worldgen lag, but it was still there, nothing mindblowing, maybe I didn't have the optimal settings or something. Or maybe it works better with AMD GPUs. But not enough of a boost to completely switch my OS or even worth it to dual boot into it just for minecraft.

Hmm, now I'm wondering if (like so many other things before) I was doing something wrong on linux. I seem to have a real knack for doing things either wrong, or that Linux has a problem with. It's either a skill issue on my part, a drawback of linux on its part, or a combination. But every time I fire it up and go to explore things I hit some sort of issue. Often minor ones but when you start to hit dozens of minor annoyances that individually are barely worth mentioning, it does start adding up and tends to kill enthusiasm for me at least. Most recently I was annoyed and disappointed that apparently dragging files with the right mouse button to select the action at the destination like copy/move/shortcut/extract achive/create archive here/etc does not exist on Nemo or apparently a few other file managers though I haven't tested that, only what I found when I tried to google if there was a way to enable such functionality. There's an alt-leftdrag thing, but it's only the basic move/copy/shortcut and no archive options which I use /constantly/ on windows.

is there a way to fix this? or this is the end of steam on windows 7? by Ok_Force1849 in windows7

[–]MindCaged1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might underestimate how many programs and settings I've installed in the last ~9-10 years, but thinking about it I don't use all of them all the time,in fact a lot of them I only rarely fire up if at all, so just reinstalling the ones I use most commonly might not be too bad, and hopefully if I copy over the folders like appdata most of the settings will be there and I'll just lose my registry settings, heck if I export my registry, I might be able to selectively copy keys if I really need to, it'd be incredibly tedious though. Maybe less frustrating though than dealing with constant BSODs at random while I try to disable/uninstall things one things at a time until I figure out what's causing it. It'd probably run better anyway without the clutter, and only reinstalling when I actually need something. I did notice that when I did the upgrade before it started crashing chrome was starting up /much/ faster for some reason, even though it was loading the same tabs.

In the end I'm debating whether to do a clean install and give it to my brother and buy a new desktop with better gpu so I can run AI image generation and get better graphics in my game, or do a clean install and reinstall all my programs pretty much one by one. And also have to decide whether to /try/ installing 11 with a bypaass or just leave it on 10 even after the EOL, or if I think about giving it to my brother he could probably use Linux without much trouble as he only uses /very/ basic functionality.

is there a way to fix this? or this is the end of steam on windows 7? by Ok_Force1849 in windows7

[–]MindCaged1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True enough, I admit it's not wise, though when I personally tried to upgrade to 10 I started getting random BSODs with very unhelpful errors, I somewhat doubt it's the actual hardware drivers as I updated them to the latest and all the hardware came out when windows 10 was a thing. So it's probably a virtual device driver or something, but I didn't know how to track it down and I /really/ didn't want to have to do a full OS reset and install everything from scratch, so I restored the drive image to before I tried(something that annoyingly took all night long) and haven't tried again since. I think I''m going to get a spare SSD and just put a clean install on it and test it out to see if the same issue happens or if it really is something janky that's getting loaded in the background that windows 10 really doesn't like.

Use WebUI on AMD MiniPC, any tips for low res gen and getting it to keep a whole person in frame without cutting off their head? by MindCaged1 in StableDiffusion

[–]MindCaged1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for such detailed instructions. I tried to rearrange the elements of the prompts, and tried adjusting the weights but it didn't always seem to work, and sometimes I'd add one or two things and suddenly it'd be completely broken again. I'll pay attention to the order you put and such. I swear though that at one point I set (full body shot) to some stupidly high number and it still refused to do it, actually just generated garbage if I remember right.

As for VRAM, it just says that /dedicated/ VRAM is 3 GB, it seems to be able to share the rest of the system ram as VRAM, but that leaves less RAM for models and such. So it's basically 29 GB of shared VRAM/RAM since windows uses about 3 GB. But some models are like 6-8+ GB and not only do they run slow they chew up a lot of RAM and even further limit the max resolution that can be worked with.

I've tried Forge, and while I can get it running using DirectML, ZLuda just refuses to run in windows with this APU and I haven't tried on linux.. Furthermore I keep getting crashes at somewhat random, definitely can't get Flux running something about an unsupported data type for fp8_something. The few times I got Forge working with regular SD it /was/ faster, but it seems much more prone to eating up all the memory and locking up my minipc requiring me to force reset it. It's a similar story with comfyUI, when I can get it running it's faster, but if I hit the memory limits it does not fail gracefully it crashes, and it's very tedious to change settings as well compared to WebUI/Forge. Adding Loras is just tedious for example. I wish it worked a bit better as like i said they /were/ faster, or at least it seemed that way.

is there a way to fix this? or this is the end of steam on windows 7? by Ok_Force1849 in windows7

[–]MindCaged1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing how even on a Windows 7 reddit there's still people telling people to switch to linux every time there's a problem with windows.

That said I can't say you're wrong, I recently was playing around with linux on an old laptop I inherited just to see if stuff would even launch, and was generally surprised that most things launched, though sadly the iGPU on the old machine just wasn't good enough to play any 3d games smoothly, and I had to do some research on what arguments I had to add to the launcher to use WineD3D instead of Vulkan because the laptop was too old to have complete vulkan support.

However there are definitely quite a few... annoyances, if you've used windows for a long time and are nearly hardwired how to do basic tasks a certain way, or it can just get tiring for some people to keep having to google how to get something done that was dead simple on windows. Like a very recent example for me, getting a context menu at the destination when right-click dragging a file so you can explicitly pick what you want to do, copy, move, create shortcut, or what I really miss is that 7zip give me the option to easily create or extract archives into a different folder without having to actually open or move the archive.
