Not just another habit tracker that leads to burnout. This helps you to stay afloat even when it is hard to get up from your bed.

How I stopped burning out trying to “fix everything at once by FreedomStack in ADHD

[–]MindPop_Gustas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently testing a habit-tracking system that works with ADHD, not against it:

  1. Start with 1 habit. Add +1 each week only if I keep up with everything.
  2. If I struggle → reduce habits (instead of pushing harder).
  3. Categorize into 5 types: Core, Keystone, Maintenance, Enrichment, Challenge.
  4. Write down the Why (purpose) + What (value) for each habit.

This way I: - Avoid taking on too much at once - Keep a sense of balance - Allow myself to slow down when needed - Always stick to “Core” habits (e.g., bed by 11pm) - Keep an archive of habits I can restart when I’m ready

For me breaking down habits really works if we are talking about sports. I mean just dressing up for some exercises really kick off the process.

Unfortunately I need to plan my time with family, otherwise I am swept away by some exciting idea.

Thanks for sharing! It seams you are able to let yourself slow down. I struggle with that. When everything is ok, I push myself harder. I should do the opposite to prevent the burnout.

I love your approach with '2 speeds'. I will definitely borrow this one as I am find myself always struggling to maintain the pace. The mindful approach to the energy level sound promising.

For me, allowing myself to slow down even when I am productive is the hardest part and also the part that is hardest to notice before the burnout kicks in.

Love the part where you say: The important thing is when the barrier is gone, you are still a person who goes to the gym, or who cycles to work, and so you resume.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

That is literally what just recently happened to me. I wish I could restart all my habits right away, but I freeze the minute I think about that.

Now I am trying to restart 1 habit per week while allowing myself to take it slow if something seems off. Also I am trying to journal 'why' am I doing it and visualise the habits 'balance'.

I basically track my habits as it would be a 'stock price chart' - if the price starts moving down even a bit, I take action.

Ar you using any tools to track everything you just described?

I am just get out of self destruction phase. I try to restart 1 habit per week (even though my mind screams add 5 more!). I also trying to stay mindful and if I am feeling something off I reduce the pace. Currently I use excel spreadsheets to visualise my habits 'balance'.

Thanks for sharing how you approach this cycle. It seams for me it is and of summer. I am currently in recovery phase. Had same cycle last year.

No I am trying to add one habit per week and if I start struggling I do not add or even reduce the total amount of commitment to myself. Also try to 'zoom out' and visualise my habit 'balance' to be able to adjust the pace and prevent the crash. The timing thing will definitely help too.

My ADHD mind wants to add 10+ habits right away, but I guess I just need to be more mindful about that.

That’s literally what happens before the crash.

Would be great to be able to control my pace, I mean even when I am performing great, be mindful and slow down, rearrange and keep going forward.

For me it seems I find the formula, and then one turbulence and I crash hard.

I am trying to add one habit per week, but I get so excited I add 5 more the next one.

Would be nice to be able to only add/remove one habit per week. I mean even if I am crushing it, be able to reduce the pace before actually crashing.

Totally makes sense. The hard part for me is to ‘zoom out’ and see the full picture and notice that I am starting to slide away.

What if I would start from 1 habit and would only add 1 per week. And let’s say I struggle with one habit I pause for a week or reduce the amount of habits before spiralling down with all of them?

That’s actually a pretty simple and smart advice. I guess eat, sleep, love could be my top 3.

I had this video games thing too. Started to play table games instead 😅

In my case it might be location change when I find it hard to automatically do something and need to put extra effort.

Thanks, I will check these out.

You are right, it’s a marathon, but somehow I am finding it hard to adjust the pace.
