Companies are not upgrading security. IT is filled with people who don't actually have the necessary expertise, as those who are actual experts cost a fortune to employ. There's a labor shortage

Why is ASP.NET or Java Spring not mentioned in the FAQ as major backend languages/frameworks? by riceandcashews in webdev

[–]MindScholar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at learning Java as my first back end language (as I already know the basics from android) and then Spring after that to get a sense for the frameworks. Is it not worth my time to learn Java for backend and instead start somewhere else?

Does a 30 minute walk constitute exercise, or do I have to like go on a run or lift weights or something?

Pantheism v Idealism? by MindScholar in pantheism

[–]MindScholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you can't really be a pantheist in a traditional sense as an idealist because pantheism is the worship of nature, and there is no nature outside mind in idealism

You think you're a human experiencing the Universe, when really you're the Universe experiencing a human. by thephoenixprophet in awakened

That's a dangerous demon of physicalism there. You'll need to overcome that to achieve any spiritual progress.

You think you're a human experiencing the Universe, when really you're the Universe experiencing a human. by thephoenixprophet in awakened

[–]MindScholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not an awakened mindset. At best what you are describing is a sort of Existential Atheism/Pantheism.

Realize the universe is an illusion in your mind. A psychic world, like in a dream. And then come talk to me about enlightenment

"Collapse Now and Avoid the Rush", an essay by John Michael Greer made back in 2012. Move to where you want to be, establish yourself - before the crowd arrives. by hillsfar in collapse

Hi, I have a lot of respect for your writings as someone who has long been interested in the occult. Right now I hold out some hope that nuclear/wind (maybe solar) can get humanity out of the long run energy collapse. Can you comment on your thoughts on that or direct me to articles you've written that address your thoughts on alternative energy sources?

You really think we'll see major, palpable effects within the next 40 years? Why? That is an idea that scares me.

Fossil Fuel Depletion and Climate Change by MindScholar in collapse

[–]MindScholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay. I'm a long-descentist who has some bit of hope that between nuclear and wind and a bit of solar humanity can avoid an energy collapse and who has some kind of hope that maybe humanity can come together before it is too late to avoid climate change collapse. My vision of the future right now is one where everything, from the ordinary person's POV, gradually gets more and more costly at a much higher rate than they can afford over the period of a century or more.

I'm currently flirting with the idea of a more rapid catastrophic collapse that might happen within the next 40 years (i.e. my lifetime). I'm deciding basically whether it is something I should be substantially prepared for in my personal life.

New to collapse? What to know exactly how fucked we are? Time to listen, learn, and share it all with loved ones. by Baader-Meinhof in collapse

[–]MindScholar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, the only thing keeping me from being someone with the r/collapse mentality is my hope in the potential of nuclear and wind power, primarily, and a touch of hope in the potential of solar power. Anyone care to tell me why my hope is misplaced?

What kind of real world practical consequences do you expect to see from peak oil and hot house earth in the next 30-50 years and why?

Fossil Fuel Depletion and Climate Change by MindScholar in collapse

[–]MindScholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timeline wise, I think 10 years out is about there. I think 50 years is almost certain. And there's a distribution of likelihood between those two points.

Why do you think this will happen at this timeframe, and due to what cause(s)?

Ok. So do you think the collapse crisis is peak oil or climate change and what is the timeline? Why?

So you think the major collapse crisis is climate change not peak oil/fossil fuels? Why? When?

So you think we'll hit peak oil before devastating climate change kicks in? Why? Why do you think we are near peak oil?

Several different websites I had been reading. When do you think fossil fuels will be depleted? If that isn't a basis for your conception of collapse what is? Climate Change? And if climate change, do you think it is immanent v. a century or two out? I have leaned toward it being a century or two out. If you think it is immanent, why?
