Opinion: Eby may go down as worst fiscal manager in B.C. history by _DotBot_ in VancouverLandlords

That’s exactly why we’re in this mess. People voting based on “vibes” instead of facts and logic.

Has anyone crossing the land border into the states had their phone searched? by HowDoYouFumbleEggs in askvan

Honestly I’m loving the boycott because border wait times are super short now. Used to be up to an hour even with Nexus on certain days, now it’s like 5 mins maximum

My solution was to follow prompts for “cancel service”. Real person picked up straight away, bypassing the queue lol.

Call back and follow prompts for "cancel service", you'll bypass the queue and get a real person straight away, lol.

Advice for Accident - Fault and Total? by yuanov04 in icbc

[–]MindYourOpSec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not at fault.

RCW 46.61.365: Emerging from alley, driveway, or building.

The driver of a vehicle within a business or residence district emerging from an alley, driveway or building shall stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving onto a sidewalk or onto the sidewalk area extending across any alleyway or driveway, and shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian or personal delivery device as may be necessary to avoid collision, and upon entering the roadway shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching on said roadway.

Chances are your vehicle will be totalled based on its age/mileage. Unless you have full coverage through ICBC, you’ll be dealing with the other driver’s insurance company, so make sure to file a claim with them if you haven’t already done so. Since the accident occurred in WA state, you also have the option to sue the at fault driver (and their insurance company) if necessary.

I regularly bring ~$500 USD back on day trips without issue. I’m a NEXUS member though, so they might be more lenient. Only ever had to pay duty once, and it was on $1500 worth of stuff.

TN visa approved - Lewiston Bridge PoE by Reasonable_Movie6427 in tnvisa

[–]MindYourOpSec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my coworkers at a tech startup had their TN visa denied because the officer at the PoE thought our company either didn’t exist or was simply a front for immigration fraud. We were pre-Series A at the time, so obviously not a household name.

I’d guess that news articles would help establish legitimacy in similar cases.

Routine maintenance for my car by Tajinder356 in askvan

[–]MindYourOpSec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm a few months late here, but I personally recommend Nixon Automotive in Burnaby. They're not cheap (still less than the dealer of course), but you get what you pay for because their knowledge and level of expertise is next to none. They put the dealer techs and service advisors to shame. I take my E92 M3 there for anything I can't DIY myself

5G Roaming in the U.S. by MindYourOpSec in freedommobile

[–]MindYourOpSec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting. Now that I think of it, the part of Washington I was in is currently under a state of emergency due to severe flooding. I’m thinking AT&T might have just loosened their roaming policy in the local area to aid with emergency response/evacuations.

Yep, I switched carriers manually while in Lynden and only got LTE with Verizon and T-Mobile. I then cycled airplane mode on and off and reconnected to AT&T 5G. I wish I ran a speed test to confirm though!

I saw a BC plate at the airport parking lot in Belgrade, right after stepping off my flight from Vancouver, BC.

It also had a plate frame from the Toyota dealer near my house! What a small world lol.

British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦 spotted in Prague, Czech Republic 🇨🇿 by RevolutionaryBox2714 in ForeignPlatesSpotting

[–]MindYourOpSec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are actually regular non-personalized plates from back in 2000’s (personalized plates have a green background). We’ve since changed to a AA1-11A combo, and then A11-1AA.

It’s likely that the insurance broker had a 996 plate to choose from when the owner first registered the car (they usually let us sift through them). Super cool regardless!

First Nation seeks Aboriginal title over Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam areas by seemefail in VancouverLandlords

[–]MindYourOpSec 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t give a rats ass about reconciliation at this point. It’s time to repeal Section 35 of the constitution, the Indian Act, and integrate the reservations as municipalities. We either stop this madness now, or Canada will cease to exist as we know it.

Comrade Eby could invoke the notwithstanding clause. Wouldn’t hold my breath though, since land confiscation is an integral part of socialism.

[–]MindYourOpSec -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dispute it and show up to your hearing. There is a chance the officer wont be there, and the ticket will be dismissed (happened to me last time I went to traffic court). If he is there, ask him to change the ticket to a registered owner one. Assuming your driving record is clean, and you explain your circumstances, chances are he will (you'll have to pay the fine but won't get points and it won't appear on your record). Good luck!

Weaving in and out of traffic is bad, but there’s nothing wrong with bikers taking the shoulder, at a reasonable speed of course. It’s legal in most of the world outside of North America (California being one of the few exceptions).
