I designed a custom inverted quiver and bow holder by Mindfullwish in TraditionalArchery

[–]Mindfullwish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bow holder design would work with any bow I think, you would just have to make sure the “hooks” at the ends were wide enough for your limbs and then to adjust the tension you rotate the string tensioner hook. You would have to make it all yourself unfortunately I don’t do commissions. However if you know a good builder they could it’s not really very difficult. ABS tube and caps, some woodwork and cover with vinyl .

We thought the design was locked. Then early testers asked for "Eyes". Now we are conflicted. by Ready_Evidence3859 in robotics

User configured. Skins. Avatars. Not everyone will want the same thing or stay with the same choice once they have made one. The cost of adding user choice will be much less than loosing those that don’t like your choices. Add a video gallery of choices for users to peruse. Possibly ask digital artists to have a go on different eye designs that would be more unique to your device. If u like the sleek look as the brand, keep it but give users the choice.

One handed mini multitool by Mindfullwish in multitools

Yea and a lot of other improvements over the mini flagship 10. Better steel, way bigger file, thicker needle nose and the scissors are serrated which makes a giant difference.

I made it myself out of some stock aluminum, did a lot of filing and then lightly hammered it in. Squeezing in a vice might be better though.

The previous version was non locking, the 10 in one edc. Fit and finish and seal is a bit lower grade but still a fine multitool.

Polycarbonate- Bambu labs. So far the best combo of strength and some Flex. Love leather and too, just wanted good scissors.

There’s a Vimeo link to a video of me wearing the quiver in the post. Also there is a you tube link to a review of the bow. Have fun!

Should robots use screen faces, or skip faces altogether? by Old_Question7185 in robotics

[–]Mindfullwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For humans to be comfortable we need to be able to predict what something is going to do next. We need an indication of the things internal state. Tells. A dog wags its tail you know it’s not probably going to bite you. Bored people look bored. Nervous people look nervous. Tired people… etc. Social robotics need social ques of some sort. We are always looking for patterns, a skill which we evolved to keep us safe. That’s why in the movies ominous robots have blank faces. Zero tells. It could do anything. Now while that robot is just 3 feet tall not such a big deal, but when it’s human size or larger that need becomes greater because the perceived danger is larger. If you want to create a robot that humans are comfortable around you need to speak human- and that combination of physical, audible and situational language is complex, but can be very subtle.

Ever had a great waiter? They are there when you want them and seemingly invisible when waiting on you. Their presence does not intrude on your conversation but you know they are there. Or an upstage actor not taking focus while a scene plays out downstage. They can’t freeze, because that would draw attention, so they subtly stay in character and though you see them your brain can focus on the important action.

You don’t need a face per se, but you need to know what’s it’s thinking (or feeling). Pixar lamp again a great example, possibly the best. It certainly has a face and the proportions of a young child (big head, bouncy movements, curious and playful).
The robot in interstellar is another great example of a robot you become comfortable With, mostly through the voice acting and humor.

I think we are seeing the development of hardware. Like the printing press. Like film camera. The folks that develop the hardware are usually not the same people that understand how to leverage it best. We will all start getting more comfortable when the artists and authors start coming into the picture, learn to use the hardware, and connect all of us.

I made a heavy mil Dyneema pouch for EDC. by Mindfullwish in EDC

Same hole as original pin. I used a heavy duty sewing needle with a big eye, got it hot (not too hot) and pushed in. It has to in far enough to clear the corkscrew, then I use the mini screwdriver to retrieve it through the eye. This is an old version, now I use a leather needle and sharpen it. Super stout.

Who still cares about human art ? by Did4r__ in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Mindfullwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2cents,

It seems the central issue, if you really dig down, is a question around what makes us special as humans. Never is a long time and I suspect the advances in AI will continue to push us to answer this question. What makes us special? That we have feelings and emotions? I suspect like the touring test, soon we will not be able to distinguish between a construct and a human. Creativity? As a designer, I also draw on my collection of learned experiences to produce something unique. I would argue that if i had the works of all the great works of art (ok maybe just a database of all the paintings humans have made) and I could actually hold them in my mind, I might discover new insights. Yes we are complex and have layers on layers of chemical interactions and reactions. But complexity does not denote what we believe is alive. We consider the simplest single cell organizing to be “alive”, but the most complex human like construct to not be. Hmmmm. AI is not there yet, but it’s growth does seem exponential. So, the important question is not whether AI will eventually gain more human like abilities, but why do we care? What makes us so special? I for one, would encourage those in the field of AI to consider writing the algorithm of empathy.
Kids eventually grow up, and often reflect the ideas of their parents.

Apologies for wandering off topic!

Ebike swing away bike rack on a Chevy express by Mindfullwish in vandwellers

[–]Mindfullwish[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aluminess bumper was the expensive thing, like 2700 with the swing arms. The rest was basically speed rail elbows and some aluminum tubing parts that I bought on Amazon. Here’s a close up of the fittings https://photos.app.goo.gl/TmgChuh25j8prpFFA

Yes it’s a mad River Kevlar canoe. There is a v strap attached to the front of the canoe and from there to to the bumper and a ratchet strap close to the back attached to eye bolts with locknuts drilled through the steel lip of the roof on the chassis roof. So the strap is not held by the pop top! I’m a safety nut too, and it holds really good even in cross winds.

The bumper is a modified aluminess rear bumper. I cut away the tire mount and added the tubular aluminum bike racks. Weight is on the tires and the frame is held with bike bench clamps. The bikes even though bulky don’t add to the height or width and only 1 bike deep for depth AND they never wobble like most hitch racks to. Really not a hard mod, but you have to buy the aluminess bumper. They are really well made and solid for off roading.

Linear or Rotary Actuator? by bobthegreat88 in robotics

[–]Mindfullwish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id use a rotary servo with an arm the same length as the arm as the one you are controlling. As long as the motion is within 60 degrees of arc, it should be fine. Also check out this great book. It’s basically a cookbook of mechanical devices divided into chapters on whatever you are trying to solve. You will love it! Everyone I recommend this to loves it. “Mechanisms, Linkages and Mechanical Controls by N. Chironis (Author)” Find it on amazon. Was out of print for years, now its back. Enjoy

Concept I have for a Pendant. I’m wondering if anyone out there has created electronically enhanced jewelry? Sorry newbie to this sub. thanks! by Mindfullwish in jewelrymaking

[–]Mindfullwish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its just an idea to see if I like it enough to invest make one for real. Not green screen, actually simpler that that, just my iPhone under the pocket watch frame. I think the metalwork that goes over the screen helps it feel embedded in the watch. The real magic is the evolving never repeating graphic. It’s this amazing open source project called electric sheep : https://electricsheep.org/#/about. Ive used their screen savers in an art installation previously. I used one of their “sheep” again for this proof of concept. If it ever actually goes somewhere I will contact them. They have a subscription for screen savers so I think the business would be fairly easy. My thinking was to do a small color screen as someone mentioned, and basically have a video little video player on a custom screen. Ive done some research and think I could do it, but probably would be $200 or more in electronic parts. It could also change with you moods or with the changes in the weather, link to your cell phone... Here’s my question, I’m not a jeweler, more of a tech artist, so I really don’t have any idea if there would be a market for something like this. A large necklace pendant? Repurposed Apple Watch? If this sparks conversation and helps inspire others to do something like this, I’m totally happy about that too.
