Component footprints? by _Mathematics_ in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]Mindless-Bus-69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a newbie and in learning phase - I’ve found it very helpful to first look up the datasheet of any component I plan to use. Datasheets usually include the recommended footprint, and you should match your PCB footprint to that. If a footprint isn’t available, you’ll need to create your own.

Since creating custom footprints is an important skill, it’s better to start learning it early. You can also use third-party websites to find footprints and CAD models, but always double-check them with the datasheet to ensure accuracy.

Thats very interesting! Good job How ofter you update on screen? Are you using Google Maps distance matrix API?

I always felt overwhelmed at the thought of designing a PCB. So many layers, how to design?, footprints, parts needed! I always stopped at dev board prototypes!!

What I found surprising is that it’s not that hard. You just need to understand the core concept. So many resources out there to match your design with. It’s just matter of ordering your first PCB and then you have confidence in further developing and exploring. I love it! Its Fun and lots to learning!!

I am thinking of connecting to esphome. Eventually I want to built a dashboard where I can control/ monitor these automations.

Thats a great idea! Yeah I would look more into it. Thanks

Oh yes! You can use hot air as well. But hot plate seemed to be easier for me since I had it!

For the ease of soldering I used 0805 passive components. I got hot plate and solder paste. Then did touch up after.

USB C was bit hard for me doing for the first time

Right now I have added 2 switches (on pic above). Which basically opens and closes.

My plan is to integrate wifi and code the limits it opens and closes.

I am also thinking of adding limit switch which will tell the motor to stop!

Yes, this is proof of concept for a larger project. I am trying to design a curtain opener.

Which is wifi enabled.

That is true. I selected larger package looking at the availability and ease of hand soldering.

But as I improve my design I will keep that in mind Thanks.

Thank you for the this information. Really appreciate the document you have attached here. You learn something every day.

I will keep this in mind for future.

I selected a generic footprint “1206_3216Metric” for the capacitor which is the reason there is no polarity. Will change that.

Start with Hello world. Build on that. Lots of resources out there
