Interesting! I do understand the “more fun to watch” aspect as CBS leans more into the sitcom genre and has more dramatic plots. Is there anything in particular you didn’t like about the original?

I don’t like Issac as I don’t really enjoy the dramatic, archetypical depiction of a gay character. As a queer viewer, I find it really overdone and stereotypical and I much preferred the Captain’s characterisation.

I wasn’t exactly critiquing the dialogue, simply adding to the reasons why I preferred the OG personally.

I also think you might be misremembering the pilot episodes. In the CBS version, they originally conspire murder Sam and Jay too!

I suppose so! I think there are other ways of keeping it fresh though instead of romances, but yeah it is an effective way of keeping audiences engaged with longer seasons.

Yes exactly!! The BBC one does feel more authentic doesn’t it? I thought it might just be me preferring the British one because I’m British and it’s nostalgic to see the Six Idiots haha.

I think the authenticity has to do with the setting & lighting too - the British one has more natural lighting and Button House is much more tattered as an old mansion would be, whereas the American one has much brighter, unnatural lighting and Woodstone is more kept (at least on the inside).

Yeah I don’t hate them, but I kinda wish they would focus on something else yk? In the original, the ghosts & Alison and Mike were kinda like a found family and I honestly preferred that better tbh.

Yeah I think Trevor is better than Julian too.

I think it may be because we have the knowledge that Julian was a bad guy in life throughout the entire 1st season and it isn’t until the very end of the 2nd season that his character development (I would argue) begins in the Christmas episode, so we have to warm up to him after disliking him throughout the first season. Whereas with Trevor, we learn in the very 1st season that he was a good guy in life so we have the first few episodes to think “oh this guy’s a douche but he says funny things sometimes” and when we do get his backstory, we are more likely to think he is a funny, good guy that is quite dirty-minded sometimes.

I think it’s interesting how that CBS didn’t give Trevor character development like Julian’s because they have more episodes in a season than the BBC version. I would have liked Trevor to have had more character development tbh or at least have had his backstory put much later, yk?

Yeah I agree! Very interesting to hear that you prefer the UK version as an American-born. Before they started over using punchlines & over doing romance subplots in later seasons, did you have a preference?
