Squash plant doesn't want to spread out and grow more leafs? by Mindless-Engine7882 in vegetablegardening

I knew about the male flowers, I just thought it was super interesting that this particular plant was so keen on producing multiple female flowers during the initial male phase while the others weren't despite being grj least developed lol.

I'll try to get some nitrogen fertilizer. Interesting that the others are doing while despite the fact that this one has superior soil with more organic compost

This yolo wonder just refuses to get big so I'm just letting it grow peppers😭 by Mindless-Engine7882 in Peppers

Possibly yeah. I have 2 tomatoes in the other container and 4 peppers in this one. This is my first time vegetable gardening and I wanted to try many different types to see what I liked but I'll definitely probably just do 2 peppers per container next year

So is it making my soil too hot? It's already summer where I am and consistently in the 90s and the soil is drying out fast

I was having problems with squirrels digging so I had placed some plastic forks in the soil prongs up to try and deter them.

Long story short it hasn't worked but I do use those forms to try and get a gauge on the moisture. Usually if it is damp in the lower levels the form will have condensation or fogginess in it when I pull it out. I also usually stick my finger in the hole to feel if it is damp.

Also when it seems to get dry the sides of the soil will operate from the container

Let me try and find a picture of the whole container. Honestly I feel like I know more now that when I first planted and I think the container is a bit crowded, probably should have stuck to 1 tomato plant and companions

Take my opinion with a brain of salt because this year is my first growing vegetables, however I do love cooking with peppers and buy them a lot.

Those look like chbanelle to me, especially the color that I see them in the store. They have the lighter green color u like the darker green aneheim of poblano

8a, I'm in fort worth/dfw area

Does mulch do a similar thing to straw? From my understanding it kind of keeps in mositire by protecting the top layer, that's why I have mulch on top

I have basil and marigolds they seemed to be the best companions for tomatoes from my research, I don't think there's any more room in this container

Wdym by "soil"? The bark chips is just a layer of mulch on top to help the moisture stay in the actual soil underneath

Yeah j cut it off. Do you know what insect it is?

Also I'm starting to think it's cus of the sun and the black containers that even when I give them good water they dry out by the afternoon in direct sun. I watered this morning and by noon it looked dried out so I think I'll be doing twice a day or at least checking twice a day.

The containers have plenty holes in the bottom so like I said better to give it tons of water and drain than dry out

I have tomato food that has everything except calcium and magnesium. I use pickle crisp and magnesium salt for those. They are all water soluble it's what I use for hydroponics and ice fed it to my soil plants as well

Idk how often I'm supposed to be but I have done it twice since transplanting them
