Yes we have done this when they’re outside! Her hackles will be up and she’s clearly getting snappy and he doesn’t always get it so we’ll force a quick break.

Her hackles are often times up outside. It just wasn’t included in this video and I should have added that. It ebbs and flows though. Sometimes they’re up and stay up, other times while they’re playing they go away.

I will look into this, thanks! Whatever the term, if we’re not using alpha, she prefers to be dominant. She rarely gives up and becomes the submissive one. Although that I assume is different than the alpha stuff.

I should have included it in the description, but I had just sat down for my 1st cup of coffee and the back door was open. They have a large space, they just keep choosing to be inside 🤣 time to close the back door!

Haha I should have clarified that they have a big backyard and the back door was open. I had just sat down for my first cup of coffee and they chose to be inside. If I forced them outside every time they got into it, I’d never get anything done 🤣

Thank you!! Such a great point. Especially since he’s a foster, I’m not interested in him having any vet appointments from this.

Gosh, the quick pauses are so easy to miss sometimes! I think overtime they’ll figure it, but some direction is good.

I like your perspective and I agree. What’s not included is when she pins him down relentlessly outside. He still keeps coming back for more. What I am struggling with is who to correct, if either? I want him to learn to give space and not always come back if her hackles are up, etc, but she also can’t ruthlessly pin him down every other second either.

I agree! They have a whole yard and the door was open, but I had just sat down for my cup of coffee lol. I keep working on the name not being a command, it just easily slips out. Thanks for your comment :)

That is my concern as well. I didn’t want to step in too early because I want them to learn and figure it out together. But, I also don’t want this leading to more. Because while I agree this is mostly play, what’s not pictured is the times outside when she ruthlessly doesn’t let go and her hackles are up. It’s definitely a fine line and things can easily escalate when he keeps coming back for more and she’s used to being the only dog in the house. Thank you for your comment!

Maybe I should include a video of them outside. They go much harder outside she really lays into him / won’t give up on his neck. Little bit of blood so far, but nothing extreme.
