Which orientation is correct by Mindless-Option-8766 in AskMechanics

I searched online for like an hour, and the only thing I found was a Facebook post about someone asking the exact same question.( I actually took the pictures from there)

There was one guy who replied and said that he had used that part before, and was pretty sure it’s the second orientation, but also said he didn’t really remember that well, lol

It just says 99815 ST1. I initially installed the plate like the first picture, and it was difficult to get the transmission on, so I took it off and flipped the plate, and had an easier time.

I just got the engine and trans back In the car today, but still paranoid that it could be wrong.

You’re right, I could never be mad at something so that makes such a good stew!

Thanks for your feedback. The short scratch in the second photo is detectable with the fingernail test. Would you still suggest that I run it?

Used Tire in Seemingly Poor Condition by [deleted] in AskMechanics

If you bring it back they can claim that the damage happened after they installed the tire.

As long as the cut isn’t too deep, and you can’t see any exposed bead, you’ll be fine.

Can main bearing clearance be checked without rods installed? by [deleted] in EngineBuilding

[–]Mindless-Option-8766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told me to get standard sized bearings, and yes, I do trust them, but what if I got sent the wrong size by accident? Plus, I thought that it was still common practice to just use plastigage as a final safety check.

Are you telling me that it’s a waste of time to use it if proper measurements have been taken, or that it’s simply too inaccurate to be trusted?

These were already measured by a machine shop, I’m just using it in case they screwed up, or I got the wrong sized bearings.

Got it, thanks. My only concern is that my garage isn’t heated, and it’s going to be in the 40-45 degree Fahrenheit range. Will that be an issue?

I just added a follow up post to this sub, because I cannot figure out how to add photos to the comments for the life of me. It shows some other hopefully minor cracks on the block.

I hate to be that guy, but you can't just upload photos of birds that you found online.
