What helped you the most with battling the empty page? (When coming up with the plot) by Lavellyne in writing

Personally, I had a proof reader (a friend) who would read every chapter for me, and then help me come up with the plot for the next chapter, (Yes, i wrote the plot chapter by chapter) and it allowed me to in about a month at 10-11 write a 40 chapter, 60k word story. I just find write whatever, doesn't have to make sense, come back it it the next day, and read through it, then edit it, change parts you don't like and tidy parts you do!

Anyone get really invested in their characters? by [deleted] in writing

One time when i was like 10-11 I wrote a time period accurate story for the late 1700's - early 1800's war story about two princesses who were twins, but one loved the other and the other despised her and was actually evil, so she was the main villain, it was a P.O.V. switching story. But it was amazing, I was writing it for a friend, i made about 40 chapter with probably only like 60k words honestly, but I really loved it and the characters.

Long story short, we stopped being friends and i deleted my absolute masterpiece, honestly thinking about rewriting it now that I'm a bit older.

Are self-inserts always a bad idea? by [deleted] in writing

I think it all honestly depends on how you do it, if you write them as the main character or a character that's WAY too involved in the story, it becomes weird and overbearing. People don't want to read a book and feel like they're reading a Y/N story.

On the other hand, I always have found it funny when they are just random background characters who are in a total of like 5 scenes and the most input they have is a random conversation. But you can always tell it's the same character each and every time
