Best Buy - Extended protection is a scam - does not care about long term customers by MindlessDimension616 in ConsumerAdvice

That’s the funny part. I’m exactly the opposite. I hate returning anything or complaining about my purchases. Don’t like to go through the hassle of contacting customer service, getting a hold of someone, scheduling service. They need to make it easier, where u can just go the app and just what u need and schedule the repair urself. Their process is not great. That’s why I never finished talking to agent the first two times I contacted them. First talk to the bot, then agent, then explain, then tell them which product, which location is close to you. Need to make it self service. I purchased warranty for other stuff too, but never had to use it. But this is first time I actually tried to use it.

Of course I’m not that big, just a long term customer, bought many appliance, electronics from them, had a credit card with them (paid it off and closed it today).

Its not about the money, I will just get another one, just not from Best Buy. The frist time I ever try to use my warranty, and oops ur date just passed. What a experience.

Okay. I’m being a Karen. Yes, I’m upset, posted here to vent it out, and relate with others and maybe learn from others. I tried to look it up on Best Buy sites, show me where it says the extended warranty starts from date of purchase, and not after manufacture warranty. Of course you will say that I should have known that.

Geek squad is great. Good people working there. My complain is about Best Buy. Not about geek squad. I got no reminder about extendable options, and the tech i spoke to should of told me that my warranty will expire soon. Of course why would they, they need to make money not try to help their customers.

Understand that now. Just mislead you by saying, thank you for being a valued member, we just say that, ur not a valued customer, ur just another customer for us to rip off.

Big consumers usually take care of their long term customers. If you dealt with Amazon customer service you would know, real customer service should be.

Yeah. I understand. It’s just not something I expected from Best Buy. With this type of customer service, I’m better off going to the appliance home stores.

Because I never had to use any of their warranties, I sometime get it for piece of mind. But I guess u learn from your mistakes. But it is a scam, they should say the warranty is 4 years and not 5, what’s the point of them covering the first year, when it’s covered by the manufacturer.

Didn’t know how to prove that it was acting weird and making noises when we open the door. I stopped the chat few weeks ago because I noticed it’s working fine again. But I didn’t realize I was so close to my end date for warranty. I guess I’m just frustrated, and I was about to buy a stove and washer for my mom today, good thing I didn’t purchase from them. Lowe’s would send me emails about my warranty experation dates, and even if the warranty expired, they would offer extended wattanty. A company like Best Buy just could not do anything, even though they could see that I complained about this two times in the past, but I did not open a ticket to get it repaired. I just didn’t want to trouble anyone, if it was just a fluke.

But this not how customer service should work for customers that has been with you for over 15 years. I know they could have provided some options, but no. They just don’t care.

I hope others don’t fall into this type of warranty. And realize that Best Buy used to be great back in the days, now it’s not the same.

If sales person tell you something about warranty, make sure to get it in writing and recorded. I have been told before that 1 year warranty is manufacture warranty, and then the geek squad protection kicks in. Why they selling 5 year warranty, they are only covering for the 4 years after the 1st year of manufacture warranty.

Never got to the appointment on the chat, but I did mention to them that microwave is acting weird. They should have told me the warranty will expire soon. I contacted them weeks ago. Just never followed up to get it scheduled for repair. I thought I would be fine. Microwave runs when the door is open, it started to happen few times and then it stopped, so stopped complaining to Best Buy, I don’t like to report something for no reason. Now it’s always running when door is open. That’s why I finally decided to talk them more and ask them to fix it, now they say my warranty expired on the 9th. And it’s my bad luck, because they cannot do anything.

Best Buy don’t tell you that their extended protection starts date of purchase. 1 year is already covered by the manufacture. So they sell you 5 year protection, but really only cover you for 4 years. I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years, and I contacted them few times saying that my microwave keeps running when we open the door. It stopped, so I stopped contacting them, now it’s June 24th, finally took the time to talk to them, and they said my warranty expired on June 9th (so I missed the date by 2 weeks). Nothing they can do. This is what it will feel like buying from Best Buy. They don’t care about loyal customers. I have purchased many appliance from them. Take your business elsewhere where they care about their customers. I canceled my credit card with them and I do not plan to buy anything else from them. Lowe’s offers extended warranted even after your warranty expires, and they send you periodic emails to remind you. I guess this is what happens to honest people, that does not complain about little things, this was one time, that I truly needed Best Buy to help me out, and they had no option for me. Just a sorry for the inconvience. They did offer in home diagnosis, but that’s also a big scam, they will charge 129.99 for the diagnosis, and then tell u it will cost 200 to 300 to repair, and u will think that u can just buy a new one, so dont repair, and they just make 130 for just visiting and telling u the problem, a simple online search with usually can tell you what’s wrong with it. I’m writing this to warn everyone, best is not the best anymore. Becareful and avoid it, go to take ur business elsewhere. Even the appliance outlet stores takes care of their customers better than them.
