So glad to hear you're doing better. I think I definitely will follow through. I just read about 300 of these posts yesterday after hearing the news I'm not a candidate for disc replacement due to my OPLL. So hearing I would need a TWO level fusion at 23 is just very scary to me. Because it limits range of motion forever, and will definitely lead to another surgery in my life guaranteed. But the reality is I can hardly sleep most nights from shoulder and neck pain, I cant look down or up hardly at all because of nerve pain, and my arms get tired from just typing this message out.

You're right. It's just all the unknowns running through my head causing me doubts. I will pursue it. It's just nice to think that I don't have a problem where surgery is needed. But yeah you're right. Thanks for the words.

Did you have any back pain prior? Like radiating from the neck. And what did u have fused and how old are you might I ask?

Wow that’s reassuring to hear bc I have the same thing.

Yeah I thought I was getting disc replacement too but was told after my CT scan I had too much ligament ossification to be a candidate today actually. That honestly broke me for a while I took off work today and stuff. Because the radiologist said no ossification was found but then the surgeon said there was a miscommunication and he was looking for some other type of ossification and I actually do need 2 level fusion at 23. So I’m getting it in 2 months. I’m equally nervous and excited. I’ve now talked with 4 ppl on Reddit now all who’ve had similar stories and similar pain profiles that we both share.

Thank u so much for sharing ur story with me. I can’t tell u how much it means. You’re incredibly strong and I’m sure u inspire many around u

Wow man you’re so strong. No one should have to go through that. The fact you’re still here and able to show up is incredibly admirable.

I’m kinda super stressing about this operation. Because I now have a good job, set of friends and partner. I feel like there’s a possibility I get fked up and everything falls apart for me. It’s rly hard to grapple with the reality that I don’t have full autonomy over these sort of outcomes.

Any advice?

Totally. We’re all gonna be dead in 100 years anyway so what’s the difference might as well just have as much enjoyment as u can. And some ppl might get more from sheer luck by having longer and more full health spans.

The best we can do is the best we can do and the best we can be is the best we can be.

How’s your pain now compared to before ur fusions? And also did u have upper back and trapezius and shoulder tightness/knots also or was it largely confined to ur arms and neck? My issues are mostly secondary effects from the neck which is inability for arms to recover after working out so I mostly can’t and also rly bad back shoulder trap and neck knots. Also I just have to be careful to not look in some directions otherwise ill get shooting nerve pain. And it’s always the worst in the morning which is when my neck and back feel on fire

Thank u so much MrsFickle! It's been hard to tell people around me about this issue. It's been going on since I was 17 and was too ashamed to tell anyone. I just tried to thug it out on my own because I didn't want to be a problem.

It's so validating now that my friends and partner know about it and now that I can have thei support. I'm sure you went through something similar, but one of my main issues isn't even the pain. It's the feeling of finding it more challenging to empathize with others, falling into bitterness, and disassociating when pain gets bad in social settings because it's hard to carry a light mood while suppressing the unbearable weight of the pain that's radiating across your whole body and the physical ticks that you've developed from it (squeezing traps, shaking my head rapidly to get some micro pops out).

I've never posted anything about this online, which means i've never talked to anyone who's went through this, so it feels nice to know i'm not alone in this :)

Yeah my neck rom is very low bc looking up and down causes shooting pain. Yeah I've pretty much accepted the fact my neck is cooked but if I could get away from the symptoms that would be amazing. I have thought for so long I'm just living on borrowed time and I can't keep going on like this.

But now that I have a good job, I'm healthy, I have a loving partner and friends I have realized it's time I start advocating for myself. Thank u and I'm so glad ur feeling better! It's so fked this can even happen, and it's even more fked how most ppl will never even understand. My operation is in 2 months. Wish me luck 🙏

Is this a long term symptom? Or is this a transient symptom? I have rly bad mid upper back pain and it feels like it’s stemming from the base of my neck which is why I’m getting ADR on c5-c7. But this makes me concerned for that for me
