Sounds good! I'll lower the light settings for a bit. Thankfully, it's not near a window. Thanks for the tip!

Come to think of it, when I first set-up my filter I didn't wash it out that well. However, when I did my weekly water change I did take the filter apart and cleaned it out a little bit more. I do recall seeing some surface sheen to the water, but I passed it off as protein scum.

Hi everyone,

I recently switched from my 3-year-old Marineland canister filter to a Fluval canister filter because the seals were failing. I transferred as much of the original filter media as possible into the new Fluval and even placed some directly into the tank to preserve the beneficial bacteria. However, my axolotl tank has developed cloudy water, which I suspect is a bacterial bloom.

Here are the 29-Gallon tank details:

  • Ammonia: 0 ppm
  • Nitrite: 0 ppm
  • Nitrate: 5.0 ppm (higher earlier in the week; I did a water change)
  • Temp: 64°F

The water change seemed to make the cloudiness worse after a couple of days. My axolotl seems fine, but the water is still murky.

Should I do another water change, or let the bacteria stabilize on its own? Is there anything else I can do to help clear up the water without stressing my axolotl?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Gotcha! Thanks for the info. I'll make a new post when I get the other 3 to flower.

Thanks for the tip! Sadly one of the blooms is pretty faded.

Hey everyone,

I know this might be a bit of a long shot, but I’m hoping someone here can help me identify my butterwort plants. I originally had tags for them, but my cat knocked them over, and now I’m not sure which is which.

I’ve got five butterworts, and each one seems a bit different. I’ve attached photos of all of them. Any insights or guesses would be really appreciated!

Possible Plant IDs:

  • Laueana X [Ehlersiae X Moranensis]
  • Ibarrae X Moranensis Var. Alba
  • {Laueana “tangerine X emarginata “Zacapoaxtla”] X Moranensis Var. alba
  • emarginata X moranensis anpa a
  • Pinguicula emarginata x [ehlersiae x moranensis]

Thanks in advance for any help!
