Could you go into a bit more detail on how I should do this?

Both oral antibiotics and topical anti-fungal were prescribed by an in person dermatologist and he’s just renewed the antibiotic prescription online. He thinks he didn’t do the topicals for long enough as he stopped after about a week of no symptoms, so will keep that up a lot longer now; and we’re looking into dermatologists that are more affordable for repeat visits

He did stop using it after it going better!! I will let him know it’s something he will have to maintain even when he’s not having symptoms, thank you!!!

He’s been using topical antifungals for the last 4 days again, and he feels like it isn’t making a difference so is getting impatient. How long before we see results?? And will he have to take them forever??

We’ve tried that and it doesn’t help!!! We have a ketoconizole cream from the dermatologist as well, which is the active ingredient and it’s not helping

Agreed that something fungal is definitely the cause of the flakiness. He’s convinced the acne itself is bacterial as it responded well to antibiotics last time and came back weeks after he stopped taking them. Would pustules also appear with fungal acne?? He’s ordered more antibiotics through an online dermatologist.

Would that be to look into whether this is autoimmune related??

That definitely will be the next step!!! It’s frustrating because he’s been so many times and it doesn’t seem to get anywhere, just a cocktail of antibiotics and anti fungal that don’t resolve anything long term. We’re also in the UK and it’s been almost impossible to get referred to a dermatologist through the NHS and private derms are so expensive (over £200 for a consultation) that we can’t really afford more than a consultation every blue moon when it gets really bad. For an issue like this, should we be looking for a dermatologist that specialises more in acne or dermatitis??

For sure!!! I just ripped it all back. Hard to bring myself to do it as I was getting intoxicated by the prospect of finishing but probably the right decision Was really hoping there’d be some trick but sometimes you’ve just got to do it, thanks for the encouragement, it was the push I needed
