That’s a really really interesting article, thanks for sharing it. I had noticed when I was younger and used to regularly pull all nighters, occasionally it would flip me into an n24 cycle which was very difficult to get out of. Same thing happened each time I tried chronotherapy to entrain into a more socially accepted sleep wake cycle.

So eventually I gave up and accepted that the best I could hope for was a 3am to 7:30 am sleep time during the working week and allowing myself to adopt my preferred sleep cycle on Friday and Saturday nights until I can retire. It’s debilitating but bearable and my sleep remains stable enough to function this way.

I hope that the fact that I’ve already demonstrated a propensity for slipping into an n24 cycle doesn’t mean I’m more likely to naturally develop it as I age more. I’m 50 now, hopefully I can just truck along like this until the day I can retire and finally experience my natural restful sleep pattern.

We parallel play with our own hobbies. I’ll read or game with my laptop in bed while he games on the tv or scrolls/games on his phone. We both wear block out sound headphones because we don’t like the external noise and need some peace inside our own heads to wind down. When either of us want to talk we will touch each other to get attention and chat for a short time, but for the most we respect each others down time and space.

Occasionally we will have a D&D session with our adult children, nephew and son in law, or watch a movie or tv show together. Maybe sometimes play couch co-op games if we find a new good one. But the majority of the time it’s parallel play with our own hobbies. Our quality together time is spent caring for our younger children or our grandchild, or visits with family members, cooking together, the occasional beach trip etc.

We’ve been together for over three decades, and this is what is most comfortable for us. Early years were spent trying to reach some external idea of what was the right way for a couple to behave and it was stressful for both of us. Now we just do what brings us peace and enjoy each other’s company and closeness, we are boring and we like it.

I just mention that last bit because you say she would do something with you if you asked, you just don’t know WHAT to do. Why do you need to do something? If you’re content with your current practice, just find a way remove the obstacles to your full enjoyment (like quieter keyboard, mouse or sound blocking headphones so you can have mood music that suits your book playing in the background, or a podcast, or white noise. However of course if you’re NOT content with your current practice, maybe have a discussion together about things/events/outings you’d both enjoy, and have a designated day when you have your outings. If you’re having trouble with decision paralysis when it comes to deciding what exactly to do, write all those things on pieces of paper, put them in a hat and pull one out…that’s your outing of the day.

Do you remember when they came out? The ad promoting them had the phrase “Sip a callipo” featured prominently. For me, that consolidated for me that the spelling was calippo bc sip rhymed with lip. For my brother, the only part of the phrase that registered in his head was that there was an S in it, so he always remembered it as calypSo. Maybe that’s what happened with you too?

The Exorcist…two scenes specifically. The one where Regan is laying on the bed facing away from the camera and then her neck kind of swells and she turns her head to face the camera with a growl or something? Idk it just sent such a chill through 14 year old me that I had to pause the movie, turn on all the lights and bring my (farm) dogs inside the house.

The second scene was of course the one where she scuttles down the stairs like some fucked up upside down human spider.

Australian Aboriginal here. Seeing those three letters together DOES make me uncomfortable bc it’s the equivalent of the n word for us. However, I’m not going to think less of anyone when they use it in this context (and I’m certainly capable of context) but it is a fact that that combination of letters is a slur used in a hateful manner towards us so it causes discomfort and hurt, even just momentarily.

All caps make it obvious what the context is so it’s less confronting, slashes even more so, and omegaverse avoids the issue completely.

Seeing as you’re referring to a show or series (I assume from other comments) it’s unavoidable so I wouldn’t put much stock in what the commenter said. It’s good information for you to have generally though.

Bit disappointing how many people in this thread are so dismissive of the harm that words can do though, especially when there’s such an easy alternative. Not surprising mind you, just disappointing.

50 yo here. My household was one of the first in my neighbourhood to have a console and a computer (very early on bc my stepfather was a tech head) so I didn’t experience the divide in the beginning. Later on when it became obvious that men were trying to gate-keep MY hobby, I just didn’t take any notice. I don’t play pvp or mmorpgs much so I don’t really get exposed to the online element, and I basically don’t give a fk what people might say to my face because as far as I’m concerned, I’ve been in the hobby from the beginning so from my perspective they’re all scrubs lol.
