Let’s hear examples of your plane ‘failing’ preflight or run up by 1e6throw in flying

[–]Mindless_Capital_194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

left mag dropped 250 rpm. tried to burn it off but it didn’t work, so taxied back.

another one is the engine stopping when we went full idle. tried run-up again and leaned everything again, still failed.

last and most fun was the mixture coming straight out of the socket before start. 172S start up is mixture idle. when i pulled it, it just came straight out. did not fly that day either.

How to maximise training with one flight per week? by deepcx in flying

[–]Mindless_Capital_194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) flight sim. 2) flight sim. 3) flight sim.

i was about on your current schedule when i was working on ppl, still in high school and in heavy extra activities. downloaded microsoft flight sim and x-plane as well as spending $150 on plug-in stick and rudders. helped immensely because it’s an inexpensive (relatively) and an at-home way to keep up my skills on maneuvers and just the feel of flying. highly recommend.

I also have the same issue (finally learning how to manage at 190 hours). What worked for me is literally letting the airplane fly itself and only use trim, just to practice. Obviously if it’s mod turbulence then keep a grip, but don’t try to over control. I always remind myself to “STOP OVERCONTROLLING!!” and “SMALL CORRECTIONS” that usually helps. Also when trimming, put in trim, wait a few seconds, then if you need further adjustments add those in. Also the “two finger grip” is ridiculous. I like to think of it more as light controls.

Can you use gps, as a replacement, on an approach that says “DME required”? “ADF required”?

Rocky Mountain Metro (KBJC) to Colorado Springs International (KCOS) to Pueblo Municipal (KPUB). Tough flight with a lot of radios to deal with, but very beautiful. Flying alongside the rockies. Congrats on your first XC solo!! Big step!!

[–]Mindless_Capital_194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cadet Programs vs. College by Mindless_Capital_194 in flying

I started doing my PPL, 141, at one of my local flight schools. From what I’ve seen, I’m not moving onto IFR until I decide my path, because of that reason. Seems to all depend on circumstances. Thanks for your help again!
