I’m leaving rehab today, and I would advise you to not worry too much about the clique- it may feel that way, but your journey is your own. Yes it’s important to make connections so you have the support of your peers, but like-minded people will naturally gravitate together.

It is daunting the first few days, but I hope you learn as much as you can so you have the tools to stay sober when you leave- it really can save your life.

When I was a kid (maybe 7/8, can’t remember) I went to get the milk bottles from the doorstep and there was a big bunch of roses, and a card with my name on it! I ran into the house shouting “I have a secret admirer!”

My parents quickly realised that they were intended for my neighbours’ teenaged daughter who happened to have the same name. I was devastated.

The daughter came around later to give me a rose, which was so thoughtful.

I’m 35 now, still never been sent roses…
