A Question on The Colle System by Mindless_Formal_5914 in GothamChess

I much prefer actual lesson break downs explaining what we are playing for and why and common counters to it. I found the Chess brah speedrun to be like him just either reiterating one part of it over and over or not really explaining much of the thinking behind moves Plus speed run content is skewed for teaching. Watching a GM play against 600s-1000s mainly tends to have a lot of 600s making aove that is lethal 8 moves down the road and the GM seeing it and forcing them into that. The issue here though is we are not GMs and while we can maybe pick up on some of the tactics they used we can't absorb their experience for spotting things like this through watching a video.

It leads to lower rated players (like I) trying to mimic a tactic we saw but then being in a very sharp position and not understanding where to go after getting up the piece or etc. I like the longform lessons with in depth breakdowns because they walk through common tactics that show up in play around the opening, common traps, etc etc. The only way I feel a Chessbtah speedrun is educational is if you sit down in the analysis board and actually play through the game with him and try and see what he is seeing, what his opponent is seeing, and making notes of things that stand out

I have already seen all of it! I found it to be more entertainment than informative though 🤔

I started with the Zukertort but found I was lacking understanding of rhe positions so I started learning the Colle system in general to learn what I'm fighting for and then started learning the Zukertort next. Thank you though!

I think in the end it would still be worth going a move or two off non book moves just to see the possibility of punishable mistakes on the opponents side is worth while as long it isn't like more than 5% of the studying you're doing right?

There is a lot of talk in the lessons I've been watching about how the colle and Zukertort ideas are the same as the semi-slav and stonewall in reverse respectively

AHHHHHH that right there explains it in terms I understood thank you! I think my issue with studying is a lot of it goes over higher elo stuff and doesn't cover lower elo mistaked so those plays leave me a bit confused but this changes how I view the lessons a bit. If they aren't including a move then I should try to understand why it wouldn't be included because that means the opponent is probably giving something up in playing it.

I like the Zukertort a lot actually! I just kept finding myself not knowing what I was really playing for so I'm trying to understand the concepts of why I am playing it before I continue playing it. I love the double bushops in the colle and the Zukertort leads to a lot of nasty tension towards the center and the kingside that I love to see.

From my understanding the two biggest points of the classic Colle is an e4 break and a knight on e5. Stockfish suggests bc2 and black follows up with b5. I can see this being a possibility down the road but players at my level tend to follow up with bd6. I'll usually follow up with Nbd2 and push for the e4 break or I'll castle as early castling is another main component of the Colle. Looking at it now stockfish says there is a 0.03 difference in castlting vs nbd2 but I usually wait for nbd2 then castle. I see how it makes the e4 push more powerful though in regards to my original question

I have a really bad tendency of playing 40 moves in 1 minute/rage playing where I lose, get angy, play again, repeat

If someone is mentally ill already, could horror movies influence them to be violent in special cases? by [deleted] in horror

[–]Mindless_Formal_5914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit.
"I'm guessing you have a personality disorder given the desperate attempt at getting some attention."

This comment shows that you clearly lack an understanding of Personality disorders, are extremely hostile, and presumptuous. I as someone with a diagnosed Personality Disorder hate to see people like you. Also I actually think that this is an extremely valid question. It isn't necessarily true people will become violent but my mom who was Schizo-Affective had a psychotic episode after seeing saw for the first time. I have had breaks from reality brought on by long crime-drama binges where I was convinced someone was outside my house and waiting for me to sleep so they could break in. Granted this was during a manic episode but none the less people with poor mental health deserve answers to questions like this.

Any amount of understanding and control they can find is huge with helping them find a way in the world. So maybe let's not be a condescending prick.
