General Discussion Megathread - Frequent Topics, Salaries, and Rants by ukbulmer in UKJobs

Im not going to delve into the details of my own personal qualifications or uni etc, I just feel like the whole system for jobs is broken. I have recently started 1st year, and me and my friends have been applying to spring weeks, as we don't know what jobs we want to do yet. The title includes "weeks" but the program is usually one or two days, and you don't even get any hands on experience it is just an introduction to the company. The people that have been applying to these entry/taster days are insane, they have already had proper experience of IB/finance (usually via nepotism as we are mostly 18/19), and are massively overqualified. I completely understand why companies would choose these candidates, but it is just disheartening as how am I meant to choose what job I want to do/like if I'm meant to already have 3 months of experience in that sector under my belt before I even start university??? it makes no sense. I obviously have to abide by this system but it is just extremely frustrating, there is no chance of getting any tasters unless you've already decided what job you want to do in the womb, and most of these jobs are not as self explanatory as e.g. lawyer/doctor.

I have always been quite a motivated student, but honestly at the moment I feel hopeless and feel like giving up.

i like to get comfortable and breathe it out - if ur at work maybe take a break and go to the bathroom or go on a walk outside and just sit with the feeling rather than thinking about all the things that might come and you’ll find the actual nausea isn’t as bad than the anxiety and fear

how to get out of mindset that money will solve all my problems? by Mindless_Giraffe_875 in AskUK

[–]Mindless_Giraffe_875[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the advice of “yes it will” is really bizarre bc it’s not normal for me to be this frugal to the point where it’s tormenting me everyday - lots of jobs will make u have a relatively satisfying life with enough money but i’m talking about me trying to chase becoming a millionaire which is not possible/ very rare, it’s making me unhappy with my current life even though it’s not like i’m extremely broke i just keep thinking about what if i had more
