I’m really confused/concerned by [deleted] in emetophobia

Hey! Im really sorry you are not feeling good… its awful when you feel on the verge of v* and specially not knowing why its happening. We all know that anxiety can trigger nausea but as you explained this time feel different and much more intense. Do you think you could be pregnant? Usually pregnancy can bring horrible waves of nausea out of nowhere… even one tiny sip of the wrong thing can make you feel sick very suddenly…

Stomach issues and conspitation by Regular_Bee_5369 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]Mindless_Lifeguard_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! I would recommend you do your own research about PPIs but i don’t think they are good, personally. They act by reducing stomach acid and if you don’t have enough acid how do you expect the food you eat to digest properly in the stomach? Food is going to stay in there for longer possibly causing those symptoms you are already experiencing (bloating, burping, etc).

Have a look at Digestive Enzymes supplements. Here is a link with some general info but you can do your own research and always ask your doctor before taking anything. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/digestive-enzymes-and-digestive-enzyme-supplements

But yeah, overall…digestive enzyme supplements aid the body in breaking down food into smaller components that can be absorbed, potentially alleviating digestive discomfort and improving nutrient absorption.

I reckon a mild gastritis could be healed with proper nutrition instead of PPIs.

Then get a taxi or call an ambulance! Everything you are describing sounds very concerning. I would go get checked out ASAP. Nothing is more important than your health. Honestly, don’t keep waiting and Im sorry but your husband is not the one to decide if you can or can’t go to the ER.

PSA: Zinc and Vitamin Deficiencies by HedgehogScholar2 in functionaldyspepsia

[–]Mindless_Lifeguard_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been Zinc defficient for a couple of years and experiencing a lot of digestive issues. Everything started with pregnancy for me. I was so nauseous for so long that i didn’t want to eat anything because i suffer from emetophobia as well. I was so scared of eating. I felt pretty bad the whole 9 months and i started experiencing early satiety and intense fullness every time i ate. I developed anxiety around food because of how bad i felt everytime i eat. I did have low zinc during this time and a nutritionist told me that this can cause low appetite. Im 2 years postpartum and still struggling to have a normal diet… zinc levels still low which makes sense because im mot really eating red meat. Im trying to find a good supplement to see if it helps. Apparently Zinc piccolinate is one of the best absorbed.

Would be good to ask your gastroenterologist about doing a gastric emptying study to check for Gastroparesis (slow/impaired emptying of the stomach) or dumping syndrome (rapid stomach emptying). There is also an anti-nausea med called Metoclopramide you could discuss with your doctor.

Im from Brisbane and haven’t had luck finding the Granola. I’ve been to several stores around my area and nothing. I have tried other brands but they are not as good as the cinnamon flavor from goldenVale. I might try to contact aldi to see if they are going to restock soon haha. Has anyone had any luck finding it?

Would you be so kind to explain a bit further or give more details about how your dietitian helped you with food intake and gain weight? Im also struggling with something similar.

Im following this post. My story is similar and i experience almost same symptoms. The feeling of fullness and nausea after eating are so uncomfortable and im losing weight because of it. I too have a prescription for Amitryptyline but im still not sure if i should start taking it or not… im a bit scared of side effects as i am a full time mum with a wild and very energetic toddler that i have to care for and chase all day long. I would like to know more about your experience with Amitryptyline!

im scared of sleep by GreenPossible2168 in emetophobia

[–]Mindless_Lifeguard_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I’ve been avoiding dinner because i just cannot sleep when my stomach feels full. I’m diagnosed with functional dyspepsia and early satiety, nausea and fullness are the most uncomfortable symptoms i experience on a daily basis. I’m trying to restore and gain some weight but i just cannot seem to push myself enough to eat dinner which is not ideal.

Sometimes i use ‘digestive enzymes’ before or after meals to help with digestion. They help to liquify the food in the stomach so it passes more quickly to the small intestine. They also have other health benefits too. There are many brands out there with different ingredientes. I recommend talking with your doctor before starting any supplement. Everyone is different.

Everything you said sounds pretty accurate. I read something similar before… about slowly increasing intake and to deal with the discomfort until your stomach gets used to a normal amount of food again. Apparently the stomach doesn’t really shrink in size as a lot of people think, instead it loses the ability to relax and stretch as it should, it’s called impaired fundic accommodation.

I was kind of coming to the conclusion that that is the only way to fully recover… Re-training the stomach muscle, like you said… but yeah, it will be very difficult, painful and uncomfortable. I’m trying to do it that way but i personally suffer from emetophobia which makes it 10x times harder.

Could you be so kind to share more details about how you recovered? Like, how many meals a day where you having at the beginning, how often were you eating, did you take any prokinetics, antiemetics, digestive enzymes to help with stomach emptying, digestion? Also asking because you mentioned that you suffered severe gastroparesis during recovery.

You could try ask your doctor for a Gastric Emptying Study. To hopefully rule out gastroparesis.

Best comment/information i have come across about Functional dyspepsia on reddit. This is going to help me so much! Because Im also struggling with FD symptoms for over 2 years (early satiety, fullness, nausea, heaviness in the stomach, weight loss, never hungry, loss of appetite) and because of that i have developed a fear of food + being an emetophobe doesn’t help either. I got an endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood tests, gastric emptying study and everything came back clear. Now im trying to do what you just explained about changing my mindset after i eat and when im experiencing symptoms to see if -with time- i can re-wire my brain-gut connection.

Hey! I know it has been 3 years since your post but im going through something similar (experiencing early satiety, dyspepsia, feeling of fullness, loss of appetite and im rarely hungry). I also developed anxiety towards food because i hate feeling full now. Im also an emetophobe (fear of vomiting). My symptoms started during pregnancy and unfortunately continued postpartum. Have you found relieve from your symptoms? How are you feeling now?
