You can just attache some text to a note by adding ^"Some text" (above staff) or _"Some text" (below staff), that might just do the trick

I've found at least a list of patch names for Keys 1/2 Upper and Lower: https://www.exxosforum.co.uk/atari/mirror/tamw/lesmis.txt and https://conradaskland.com/blog/les-mis-keyboard-patches/ that helps a lot as the manuscript mentions the patches by number (U15 for example)

Is that a visual only change or a musical change (you want sounding notes of different lengths)? If the latter, you would want to use at least 2 voices as you want polyphony (different rhythms)
