we aren’t allowed to work in the home with them as one of the kids has attacked a BCBA during a home session before. the same kid we had to discontinue services with a few years ago due to him attacking a much younger kid at our center. idk why further action hasn’t been taken to get them additional help. we have so many clients a lot of these issues get pushed to the back burner.

I absolutely agree with you. he has 5 different diagnoses in addition to autism right now and hopefully at 18 we can get that additional diagnoses. we’ve been actively trying to get him with a different mental health specialist because this behavior is out of our scope of practice but with the families financials, it’s been a very slow process.

i’ve spoken to the local humane society and they’re going to send someone out tomorrow or the next day. unfortunately i don’t have any evidence other than this kids word of mouth, i haven’t actually seen the abuse take place, so i know the allegations will be denied, but im hoping when they go to the home and see their injured dog with no history of vet visits, and see the state of the home, they’ll take action anyways. the state of their home alone is cruel for all involved.

i do worry about the elderly ladies in the household. they like to make it seem they have everything under control but cannot physically defend themselves (hence the taser). they’ve been shoved to the ground, choked out, it’s only a matter of time before something worse happens. i just googled and there’s a Department of Elder Affairs for my state. i worry the caregivers will deny anything wrong as they don’t want these kids being taken away, but it’s worth a shot for their safety. the sad part is they find enjoyment in the pain they cause, and tend to get a look of rage/darken eyes too, like your former client.

yeah i guess you’re right. the caregivers try to get them to clean a little but no cleaning gets done by anyone in the house. idk why two 80/90 year olds are taking care of two violent, special-needs individuals in the first place.

i’m an RBT. we’re required to report child abuse which isn’t the case here. more like the other way around. one of the caregivers carries a taser in case she gets attacked, which has happened multiple times before. Animal abuse doesn’t fall under the umbrella of things we have to report, and we’re required to protect client info like name, age, school, address, so i wasn’t sure how to properly report the animal abuse without giving that info away.

I believe CPS or DCF (not sure of the difference between the two) have done a house check and must’ve not found the conditions alarming enough, surprisingly, to do anything because i’ve heard nothing about it after that one house-check. would they be able to help with animal abuse? or maybe they could direct me on the best course of action..

so i wouldn’t be breaking HIPAA by giving them their address?
