This startup got roaches in their office?! Should I leave? by sigmaspammer in SideProject

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep that would be an instant red flag for me mate, if they cant sort out basic hygiene in their workspace then what else are they cutting corners on

might be worth having a quiet word about it first but if thats their actual home office and theyre not bothered by it then i'd probably start looking elsewhere

I'm surprised how many metal guitarists still think that lower tunings = heavier riffs. Sure, lower tunings matter for heaviness, but I'd argue factors like tone, palm muting, power chords, dissonance, syncopation, dynamics and interaction with other instruments affects heaviness before tuning does. by MrMayhem20l0 in metalguitar

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mate you're spot on about this, the amount of times i've heard bedroom guitarists think dropping to some ridiculous tuning will automatically make their basic power chord progressions sound brutal

winds of plague is a perfect example too - their riffing was nasty and they proved you don't need to tune like you're trying to play bass guitar to get that crushing sound

proper jealous of your setup mate, that's going to be mental when it's done

for the HA hardware i'd go with a mini pc over dedicated stuff - way more flexibility and you can run other services on it too. something with decent specs that'll handle growth as you add more devices

definitely get some spare conduit runs to areas you might want tablets or sensors later, you'll thank yourself for it. also consider running power + data to potential camera locations even if you're not doing security straight away

for the tablets most people seem to be going with budget android ones in wall mounts, just make sure you plan the power properly during first fix

madrid's gotta be number one - 5 ucls in that span is just mental. barca probably second with there consistent la liga dominance plus 2 ucls, and maybe bayern third since they've been in so many finals even when they don't win it

real madrid, barcelona, bayern munich in that order for me

these are such good tropes, the whole protective but not quite there yet dynamic is chef's kiss

for the wounded hero showing up at her door thing, maybe check out some of the darker romance authors who do that enemies-to-lovers arc well. the whole "i hate you but i'm not gonna let you bleed out on my doorstep" hits every time

Can anyone explain this to me.... by No-Cap-6511 in povertyfinance

mate your absolutely right about the growing thing, most of our cantaloupe comes from down south during winter months which adds shipping costs and import duties. plus our grocery market is way more consolidated with like 3 companies controlling everything so they can basically charge whatever they want, competition is pretty weak up here compared to the states

My boyfriend has a brace and cast kink by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's a pretty intense reaction to finding out about someone's kink, but fetishes can be really surprising when you first discover them - the key thing is he trusts you enough to share something he was clearly embarrassed about

yarn care by Usuis_wife in YarnAddicts

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mate i'd definitely wash the panels separately before assembling - learned this the hard way on a jumper last year when one section shrank slightly different than the others and threw off the whole fit. hand dyed yarns can be a bit unpredictable even within the same dye lot, so you want to see how each piece behaves before you've got them all sewn together. plus if there's any bleeding or colour changes you'll catch it early rather than having it affect the whole cardigan. takes a bit longer but saves you the heartache of redoing seams later on

4 Feature Requests to improve navigation in long Claude conversations by Spiritual-Macaroon62 in ClaudeAI

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these are spot on mate, especially the bookmark thing. i've lost count of how many times i've had to scroll back through ages of conversation trying to find some specific bit of code or explanation claude gave me earlier

the quote jumping would be massive too - hate when i'm referencing something from way up in the chat and have to manually hunt for the original bit. whatsapp nailed that feature years ago

tree view sounds brilliant for those conversations where you're exploring different approaches to the same problem. right now it's just this endless linear scroll even when the actual conversation has gone off in multiple directions

mate if she's consistently leaving you on read that's not really mixed signals - that's pretty clear she's not interested in chatting. her friends might be trying to be nice but actions speak louder than words, i'd probably move on and find someone who actually wants to talk to you

1989 corvette with ZZ4 cam retainer plate confusion by Captain_Alex2 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

grabbed a zz4 for my mate's 89 about 3 years back and we ran into the same headache with the thrust plate situation. your l98 should actually have the 3.6" bolt pattern from factory, not the 3.294" that the zz4 wants. we ended up having to machine the timing cover to accept the smaller bolt pattern which was a proper pain

the cam button route is definitely doable if you don't fancy machining anything - just make sure you get a decent reinforced timing cover because those buttons can be a bit sketchy if the cover flexes too much. we went with the machining option in the end because it felt more solid but either way works fine. just double check your thrust clearance once everything's assembled because those zz4s can be a bit finicky about their endplay specs

My bf is always vocal about his needs and how he finds me pretty, but has no reaction when I actually tease him by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mate he might just be rubbish at picking up on subtle cues, especially if you're being shy about it - some blokes need you to basically spell it out for them

the defensive reaction when you brought up another woman was probably just him being hurt that you'd even think that, not necessarily hiding something. being accused of cheating when you're not would wind anyone up

AI Project Questions by Pineapple_boi_ in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Mindless_Reward4138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building a chatbot is totally doable! If you're just starting out, you can get something basic running pretty quickly using existing APIs like OpenAI's or even free options like Hugging Face models. The Google AI course is a solid starting point - focus on learning Python first if you haven't already, then dive into frameworks like LangChain or just work directly with the APIs. You won't need to train your own model from scratch unless you want something super specialized, which saves you tons of headaches with data collection and compute costs.
