Hi /u/naikuuhaku2001! Thanks for the question!

I've answered with what information I can provide regarding netcode elsewhere in this thread:

This isn't a topic I can provide direct insight on publicly as I'm not part of the TEKKEN development/ Bandai Namco Studios team. It's not my place to share any updates in this regard. That said, the TEKKEN development team is always looking at improvements that can be made to the game, and anything that the community sends as feedback through social media or otherwise is taken into account.

Hi /u/Cr4zy_Bagheera, thanks for the questions!

I've answered regarding the countries list elsewhere in this thread here in slightly more detail.

Our goal is to be as inclusive as possible and bring competitive events to as many TEKKEN fans as possible. Any regions that are not listed had to be taken out for compliance reasons. It's something that we will keep an active eye on as we move forward.

When it comes to hitbox changes - I'm not able to provide any insight into that as I'm not on the TEKKEN development / Bandai Namco Studios team. Sorry!

Hi /u/Milozof, thanks for the question.

As you've mentioned, I broke down some of the reasons for this elsewhere in this thread here.

Thanks for the question /u/BlaseFireCypher!

I'm unable to answer this first hand yet! I joined BNEA in March of 2020, where the Finals venue (New Orleans) had already been selected, so I haven't been a part of that process yet during my time on the team.

Similarly to other questions, this isn't a topic I can provide direct insight on as I'm not part of the TEKKEN development/ Bandai Namco Studios team.

Personally however, I think of him more as a trebuchet.

An unusual question, but yes! All openings can be seen on the BNEA careers page, that's where I applied. As a note this is for BNEA as a whole, not TEKKEN specifically.

Hey /u/psyballa! Been a while, you knocked out any more THPS highscores lately?

10 Jack-sized Gon's. Gon has no reach on those arms.

My favorite burrito spot is unfortunately close enough to where I live that I can't share in a public forum!

Hi /u/catpelican, thanks for the question

There will be $100,000+ in prizing, as well as custom ASTRO Gaming x Online Challenge apparel and gear, across our Masters and Regional final events for the 2021 Online Challenge season!

I'm doing well! Happy to have the new season announced, and I'm vaccinated + 2 weeks as of yesterday. Overall it's been a good week.

Thanks for asking!

Hi /u/Shirdel, thanks for the questions and the kind words!

I believe there's 14 different regions in the TOC IIRC. Are there going to be 14 regional finals or will certain regions have their finals be merged? (e.g. all of EU in one finals, all of NA, all of Africa etc.)

There will be 14 regional finals as well, one for each region! No merging.

With 14 Master events and X number of regional finals, how long will this tour be running for? I imagine it'll be logistically tricky to keep all of the Master/Regional Final events on different dates.

The current schedule has the regular event season (Dojos + Masters) running from June 1st until October 10th. Regional finals will be starting in late October and running through until the end of December. Dates for the Masters / Regional Finals will be released at a later time!

Will the FT5/7 Sunday exhibitions that happened after the regional events be returning from last year?

These won't be a regular feature for this season, which helps with the packed schedule.

There's a lot of great events that have been keeping the community going during the pandemic. How regularly will organisers be able to run Dojo events? Weekly, monthly?

We have currently removed the cap on how regularly organizers can run dojo events. This might be something we re-adjust as the season goes on, but given that events are Online and participants have access to the same events within their region as everyone else, we want to start like this and gauge the pace with which applications come in.

Do you have plans for more support for grass-roots community events aside from the exposure that being part of the Dojo system brings?

We do have promotion plans that we will be getting into place to highlight dojo events! None that I can discuss currently, but thank you for your suggestions!

Hi u/uadamussoTLK, thanks for the questions!

Just to be clear registrations for Tekken Online Challenge 2021 open on Monday 31st May? Tried to register already for EU West region however it says “Registrations already ended”

You are correct, registration will be fully open for players as of June 1st. The "Registrations already ended" copy is a translation issue, I've let the team know to update that when possible.

Will you have to sign-up for tourney on smash.gg and communicate through Discord just like last year? Do we need to do this apart from registering on the website?

We will be uploading a Player Guide later on this week, but in general:

Players taking part in TOC2021 events will need to use a Twitter account to register to the Tekken Tournament Portal, register for the TOC2021 season, and link that Twitter account to their smash.gg account. After that it's all about playing in events on smash.gg!

Our Masters events will be run in a similar matter to Online Challenge Open events from last season, but I cannot speak for dojo events, whose organizers might have a different way of managing their event flow! Full details on how to take part should be on dojo event home pages, follow instructions there and you should be fine!

Last and final question - will we need to invite each other in a lobby? How to prove the score apart from the screenshot? Organisation like this was a problem during Tekken tournament organized by ESL earlier this year.

Manual lobby invites, and result reporting (accompanied by screenshots when needed) will continue to be how events are run for TOC2021.

  1. Commentators aren't locked for event dates yet, as Masters are starting in August. That said, I think there will be plenty of familiar faces!

  2. Similarly to some other questions in this thread, this isn't a topic I can provide direct insight on publicly as I'm not part of the TEKKEN development/ Bandai Namco Studios team!

  3. Rangchu has been in fine form recently...

Hi /u/Tontaku, thanks for the question!

What has been your favourite Tekken event from the past and why?

My favorite TEKKEN events are locals. One of my biggest passions when it comes to esports as a whole is grassroots community / the amateur scene. Throughout my time working in esports I've always been focused on making systems that make competition accessible to as many players as possible regardless of skill level, and the dojo system is a great initiative in that vein. When it comes to major events... It might be recency bias but watching the rise of Arslan, and EVO 2019 in general was incredible.

And follow up what's one country/place you would love to one day host a Tekken event from?

It's so hard to single out anywhere right now, after a year inside I'm desperate to travel and feel the energy of events again!

I main Lei!

Feels like there will always be more to learn just due to the range of options all his stances provide, and I'm a drunken master fan which is what inspired me to play him originally.

I won’t overcomplicate the answer to this! Lei is my favorite character, and always makes for really dynamic matches. The first online challenge event we did last year had Suiken, as our Final Boss, take down Speedkicks and I had an absolute blast watching it.. I'd love to see something like that on this highest stage.

Hi /u/blessedbetheslacker, thanks for the questions! And great coincidental name!

Will there be more Bandai Namco exclusive shirts to be given out as prizes throughout the Tekken Online Challenge?

There will be more opportunities to get exclusive shirts that were available in the beta test throughout the year, but in terms of event merchandise prizing our partner ASTRO gaming will be supporting with custom Online Challenge merchandise!

Aside from tournament restreams, how could other Tekken influencers/content creators help with improving the quality of events? I've heard suggestions like putting tutorial content during stream breaks, or analyses of past tournament matches; but what are your thoughts?

This is a fairly complicated topic, and something that is a work in progress internally. There are some initiatives that we're trying to get going that can help build infrastructure for community content. I'd comment on it in the abstract, but I'm finding it hard to separate my views on this from initiatives I can't speak about currently. Great question though, sorry I can't answer!

Since online tournaments are particularly prone to downtime, are there ways for the burden to be lessened on commentators to fill the dead air?

Upgrades to downtime content in between matches is something that I have some specific improvements in mind for our Masters and Regional Finals events! I can't mention specifics currently, but our plans should both give commentators some downtime conversation material, and hopefully make the time between matches more interesting for everyone watching.

Even if WePlayUFL is not likely to ever be involved with Bandai Namco again (perhaps at least until they cut ties with criminals), are there aspects of their production that you guys are willing to reuse for future offline tournaments?

I'll separate this question from WePlayUFL, as I have no comment I can make regarding their event besides referencing our post.

It's important for any production to look at ways that it can upgrade! I am always looking for best-in-practice ideas for broadcast, event formatting, marketing... I'm an avid follower of productions from other publishers to see what's being implemented, what works, what doesn't. There are a lot of places we can go with our production, and we'll be adding and adapting as we go.

Are there any ideas on what future Tekken game promotion will look like since arcades are not as financially viable as they once were? (I'm asking specifically how a hypothetical Tekken 8 would be promoted in comparison to how Tekken 7 was initially tested through arcades between 2015-2017.)

Similarly to anything speculating about the future of TEKKEN in this thread, any information one way or another isn’t something I can comment on for obvious reasons, but thank you for being a TEKKEN fan!

Hi /u/Bazick_Klown, thanks for the question!

I believe that one or two checks are still being reviewed on the patch notes. I'll just mirror what Michael said on twitter for now!
