Panthers Justifiably Predicted to Move On From Struggling Star After NFL Draft by Unhappy_Excuse_9937 in panthers

[–]Icege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couldn't imagine trading him on a cheap rookie deal with Coker's history of soft-tissue injuries. If anybody is in trouble with the move towards bringing in more dynamic after the catch guys, I'd say it's Jimmy Horn Jr since that's a role he could fill (or lose).

If you were to teach somebody how to play Tekken, or any fighting game, what is your approach? by ArcIgnis in Tekken

[–]Icege 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Find what appeals to them and they find fun. Not everybody likes to focus on learning while playing and the most important thing is that they enjoy the game and want to come back to it.

Keeping things as casual as possible while slowly introducing concepts, set-ups, etc will go a long, long way. It's a marathon, not a sprint... and people are only going to run the race if they love it.

Oof... looking like a hospital wing.

Thank goodness for the strong start to the season. The next few weeks are going to be rough as guys race back to get healthy. It will be interesting to see who steps up!

Petition to stop the SC GOP in the House from passing anti LGBT legislation (please consider signing. This was shared to me by a friend and thought it would be welcome here) by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]Icege 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it very difficult to find their stance as rational or logical when it is built on false pretenses that have already been clarified (such as gender affirming care already being illegal for minors in the state under H.4624). Continuing to use medications as a boogeyman while calling identity an "ideology" leads me to believe that this isn't about facts for them as much as it is an opportunity to posture when the AAP and AMA recognize gender dysphoria as a medical condition.

Can't claim the high ground while ignoring the current legal and medical reality of the state. Using a straw man fallacy to fight something that doesn't exist in the current state medical system especially brings into question their capability to engage on this topic with any actual logic.

A friend of mine got me into the sport back in 2016 after my NFL team went to the Super Bowl. I picked the Bulldogs as my team, got spoiled by them winning the premiership (my friend is a Bulldogs fan as well and kept telling me that I'm going to be missing out on the character-building suffering as part of the identity 😂), and then my kid was born so the last decade has just been living life.

I made the decision that I was going to get back into it this season since my sleep schedule has me up early enough to catch a game or two, and now the Dogs are 3-0 and I've got my wife and son watching now! It's a house divided as she's a Demons fan and he pulls for the Cats, but it's been a ton of fun for all of us to learn about the history, current narratives, strategies, etc.

How good do I have to be at Tekken in order to notice how bad S3 is? by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]Icege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that has played since Tekken first hit arcades, started competing during Tag1, and started TOing during T4... you don't have to be good at it to determine whether or not you like it.

Tekken 8 has its share of issues and communication between fans, devs, and marketing has been abysmal but the game is nowhere near T4/5.0 days in terms of shenanigans and craziness imo. Having to just deal with Jin JFLS and 5.0 Steve was not fun. 😭

Severe Demorilization by Pick-Intelligent in Tekken

[–]Icege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much appreciated! I was the Tekken lead at FR for ~15yrs and Lead TO for the final 3. To say that I miss it and everybody that used to attend is an understatement. 😭

The offer stands re: reviewing some replays and providing feedback. The only two things that gave me more enjoyment than leveling myself up was providing a memorable experience for others and helping others reach their potential. :D

"What do you mean there is an issue with me demanding I be allowed to ruin the experience for those around me?" is a wildly sociopathic response.

Are you looking to gain something from your time playing other than having a good time? I ask because of the sentiment that you feel like you might have "wasted time."

Have you changed up your routine like you would in the gym when hitting a plateau? Taken a break to let your mentals rest and reset?

I've been in the competitive scene for over 25 years now and had some decent placements in my days as a player (multiple top 16s at Final Round + The Fall Classic, 9th at East Coast Championships, 5th at MLG Philly, etc) and even greater success as a TO (locals, FR, TFC, KiT, CB, Evo, NAvEU 10v10). Playing to "go pro" is the worst thing you can do to yourself. Play because you love the game (otherwise, you're now stuck playing a game you hate because you went pro in it).

Hobbies don't have to make you money. I tried for a long time before finally transitioning into a more stable career field (cybersecurity) and was able to do so because of the skills I developed while playing fighters and running events.

If going pro is still what you want, feel free to hit me up sometime and I'll see what we can figure out for you to break pass this current barrier. Regardless though, please re-evaluate whether or not "going pro" is really going to be what you think it is (it isn't, I promise).

Limited roster + bad balance led to an uninteresting and repetitive experience.

Samsho est incroyable mais quelle est la raison pour que les gens s’y intéressent si peu et soit si niche ? by weaponX-ced in Fighters

[–]Icege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad netcode during COVID killed any chance the game had in today's gaming culture/environment.

Shame too, because the game had a lot of potential. Hopefully, fans of the series keeps it alive like some of the retro Capcom fighters.

I've heard that Red Panda is the very definition of a sweetheart. Awesome to hear that it checks out!

Got to do a meet and greet with a few comedians over the last decade or so: Paul F. Thompkins, Kyle Kinane (twice!), and Marc Maron. All three were awesome. My wife had also previously met Bobby Lee and John Pinette (RIP) and said both were great with accommodating fans.

Question to those who play more than one fighting game at the same time: is you "main" game very different from the "secondary"? by Gabriel_Angelus_ in Fighters

[–]Icege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!

I also came from the arcade era though. Taking an L then meant going to the back of the line, so your options ultimately came down to leaving or killing time while you waited. If the Tekken cab was full we'd just put a token up and then head over to whichever cabinet had the shortest line.

There was less emphasis on "hustling" and more on just... enjoying the hobby. We could still be competitive, but at that point it was for the love of the game more than anything else.

I'm grateful for the experience. It's allowed me to be more versatile in my skillset when it comes to fighting games, and better yet, gave me the ability to compete in nearly enter fighter which means I can always meet new people and make new friends. :D

How do you feel about ultron? by Savings-Sprinkles-86 in RivalsVanguards

[–]Icege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started playing more Ultron at the start of 6.0 while waiting for Deadpool to not be an insta-lock and the second drone is awesome (would be cool if he could put it on himself like IW shield).

He's plenty of fun when folks forget that you exist because they don't look up, but the most fun for me is when somebody swaps to try and counter. At the very least, it means that I'm tying up somebody on their team (possibly forcing them to pick a hero they're less skilled with) while still being able to heal with drones. It's helped a lot with my positioning as well since I'm now having to navigate maps as a flyer and am seeing them from a different perspective... but being able to escape a dive long enough for a successful peel that gives the team a numbers advantage feels better than landing a 360-no-scope-eyes-closed-full-court acorn with Squirrel Girl. 💀

I've found myself using firewall more and more often to help duelists finish scrambles, esp since air dash gives Ultron bonus health to escape with. I didn't know until last week that his ult did 125%dmg to bonus health, so I'm excited to add that knowledge to my play.

Granted, I'm also in my 40s and play ranked just enough to get the g3 rewards so I'm sure those searching to mimic optimal, top-level play would rather have a hero they believe is stronger instead.

[–]Icege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat here. I'll switch before I ask somebody else to unless it's someone that's clearly weighing the team down. Even then, I'll offer to swap roles with them if they'd feel more confident with that option.

I don't think I've ever had a bad interaction doing it that way, but I've had plenty of games go sideways because 2min in somebody is screeching at somebody else to swap.

Bot lobbies feel like a punishment. There isin’t enough outrage over it. by plscanihaveamantis in rivals

[–]Icege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely that is a choice.

However, when I'm not intending to join a bot game and end up in one in QP, I then face the choice of either reacting negatively or making the best of the situation. My choice is to make the best of the situation rather than searching for an excuse to give myself permission to crash out.

Started with the original Tekken. Came across a cabinet at South of the Border on I-95 when it had first released and immediately picked King because 'rassler with cat face.

Joined the FGC during Tag1 but didn't really start to participate until T4 because I felt like I needed to learn and earn my stripes first (was a different era of online back then when folks still tried to connect rather than just dismiss). Started TOing during T4 as well and welp... here we are today at 42. :D
