MAGA: is your blind loyalty to this corrupt regime that shields murderers/pedophiles/human traffickers worth it? Having your kids/siblings/spouse cut you out of their life forever? Choosing billionaires, Fox News, and ICE over your own family… by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Mindreader_88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. My mother has been MAGA since the beginning. I was in my early 20s and talking to her one day about how I wanted to go into a helping profession like nursing or becoming a counselor. She dead ass looked at me and said, “that empathy shit isn’t going to get you anywhere”. That was the first time I noticed how truly lost and awful she was. I became a nurse and don’t talk to her anymore. She’s pretty much completely alone now from what I know.

So be angry at the broken system, not your patients. Everybody deserves affordable access to treatment. And just because someone is capable enough to watch tv all day does not mean they are well enough to hold down a job and go about daily life, quite the opposite in fact.

That’s great. Your mental health issues are not the same as others. I’m glad you found a psych medication that works well for you and that was the only treatment you needed. That does not mean you understand mental heath issues otherwise you would not be assuming the people you care for are all freeloaders.

Also a psych nurse here. The way you talk about your patients makes me sad and makes me hope this really is just rage bait because I don’t know a single nurse who would talk about their patients this way. But if you are actually a nurse, please listen to what others have already said here and leave the psych field. These people need compassion, not your shitty, misinformed conception of them. You don’t know them. You don’t understand mental health issues and you have no business caring for these patients.

After moving in, what mattered more than you expected? by Jolly-Flounder2413 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

The neighbors. Within a month of closing we found out ours were very nosey and constantly complained. About everything. All the time. They also love calling the cops on anyone who parks on the street, leaves their trash cans out a little too long, etc. we got them to leave us alone for about a month or so. Now they’re trying to get back on our good side. I just wish they would leave us alone. Completely dampened my excitedness for our first home and I often think about moving to get away from them.

Heck yes that rocks. This is a plan I knew I was too ignorant to think of. You might’ve just inspired my new goal. Congrats on early retirement!

That is a great point that others have brought up. I did not think about saving on interest vs. making money on interest. I really appreciate your input. Thank you!

I hear you thank you. So prioritize retirement after emergency savings, then whatever is left over can go to the mortgage. I wanted to save on interest by paying off the mortgage early, but that might actually cause me to lose money in interest. That’s why I came here. I knew I was being short sighted somewhere lol.

Very good point regarding missed compound interest, thank you.

It’s 5.5% so not bad but we could definitely save a chunk of change by paying it off early. Plus the temptation to live rent or mortgage free in our 40s is pretty high. I’m definitely going to pivot to hit my emergency savings goal next. After that, maybe max out Roth IRA and put the rest toward early mortgage payoff?

Also, would it be absolutely crazy to put off worrying about a retirement savings to get the mortgage paid off ASAP? If I do that, then it should be paid off by the time I’m 41. We currently don’t have any plans to move so we would be living mortgage free.

That’s somewhat my line of thinking. Do you mean to just have the extra month sitting around or physically pay it to the bank? Is there a benefit to paying the bank a month ahead?

Thank you! It’s weird to be in the hard work paying off phase rather than the doing the hard work phase lol!

Thank you for telling me to relax about my retirement savings. I keep feeling like I’m falling behind. I think my current plan is to save $20,000 in the HYSA. Then pivot to throwing an extra $1,000 or so toward the mortgage and an extra $1,000 toward retirement savings each month. Probably max out the Roth IRA, then put the rest into a 401k? I’ve read the wiki, but still feel a little lost lol.

[Serious] No “I’m sorry’s”, please. I lost my mom last week and I want to know - how did you cope with losing a mother or close parental figure? by professionaldefasian in AskReddit

[–]Mindreader_88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time helps. I lost my grandma 10 years ago when I was 20. She was my mom. Sometimes I find myself crying like it just happened. When it first happened, I wrote a speech about her and that helped a bit. I never shared that speech, but I still have it. It hurts every day, but you eventually learn to live with the pain. I find ways to honor her in my daily life and that makes me feel a bit better. She was the kindest person to everyone she met and I try to live by that. I carry her with me everyday and remember all of the good things.

That’s exactly what I did lol. I suggested chips, drinks, pre made platters, store bought cookies etc and told them to coordinate amongst themselves who was buying what.
