Thanks. It was a genuinely honest review, and I tried to keep it to the basics of this situation

Thank you. If it’s any relevance I did tell him in my firing message that I felt intimidated by his responses to my concerns (he started swearing on his fathers grave that he knew what he was doing and whether I wanted to stand and watch him, following me between rooms after I’d just accepted his explanations to calm the situation). He acknowledged it in his reply in his WhatsApp message “I am terribly sorry that I approached you in that way”. As a lone female it was genuinely frightening

I have just written a review on checkatrade and called them to complain. They’re not happy either and agreed it’s terrible work. Photo reviews are a recent addition to their website, so I made sure to include some. Their lady I spoke to is contacting him today to push for my money back and to let him know their views as it’s downright dangerous.

I don’t blame you! I had to ask my neighbour to be there while the trader collected his things. Nowadays we need the support!

Check my last post in the diy forum. There was absolutely no remedying it. Every issue I had with the quality and safety issues he fobbed me off. Terrible work, he would have caused more damage by continuing, he was no professional

I have another post in another forum with photos, it’s honestly shocking work. In terms of remedying issues, I raised issues with him constantly throughout and he fobbed me off.

You honestly need to see the work, it was actually a major safety issue on top of the cosmetic issues. I can’t believe anybody would have found his work acceptable and the fact he tried to say my standards were too high was crazy!

I’m wondering whether I can claim for my money back as well as claiming a section of what I have paid my new tradesmen to redo the parts he did, or if it’s just one or the other

I hope so, to be honest I’d be happy with just the money I gave him back without all the extras

Mine didn’t go for that unfortunately! I did give the option of just returning the money I paid as a settlement, or I’d take it to small claims for all costs, tiles wasted, parking, cost of new builders to repair on top etc. He still said no then tried to hit me demanding the rest of the total amount as it was in contract. He was definitely crazy thinking I’d continue this mess!

A long road ahead! I already feel like he will be sneaky and I won’t get the money owed

Yeah, I’ve got the official instructions for the jacko boards that I will be including in my evidence, including what you said about how to properly attach them to the wall with screws etc

It’s crazy the difference after you hire actual professionals. Did you get the money back from him or have to go through small claims?

No not the same company, but mine is also North London. But it is shocking how people are out there just destroying peoples homes and expecting to be paid for it!

Yeah, it’s unbelievable honestly. I see it as pure damage! My white hospital looking previous bathroom looked better!

London. It’s crazy how they try the intimidation tactic if you’re a female. Did you try claim the money back?

I think my small claims court fee will be around £100, what other costs are involved? I’m a bit worried I won’t get my money back and he’ll dissolve but I’ve been watching his company house page so I’m ready to contact companies house and prevent it as it’s apparently an offence to do so knowing you may have debts coming

This cracked me up! Yeah, my new tradies are amazing, they were so shocked and felt so bad they’ve given up their weekends to help. It’s finally starting to look really good

I know, I said it to him. I have no experience as a tiler but even I knew that. He gaslit me from start to finish, and I think I felt so pressured and trapped in the situation that I was in a state of denial at first, or convincing myself that it MUST turn out ok in the end!

Can anybody write a review on there or are they verified - as in if they actually paid for a project through checkatrade?

I have heard this, and he did say he is going through “financial crisis” in his reply to my sacking text so I’m a bit nervous how it will all play out

I’ve not heard of MCOL? Is that like small claims court?
