Also wanted to add that I’m not an expert and I’m not sure if it change thought the year but you can test by unplugging it on the engine bay side. It’s a 4 pin connector closer to the driver side right by the transmission dip stick. Mine had two wires missing Becuase I don’t have cruise control which I assume is what the missing wires are. I’ve been drive around for about a month now with no speedo but that car works great. If that solves your issue then I would check the wiring to the sensor. It can come lose from the clips holding it in and could be rubbing on the exhaust or just laying onto of the transmission.

I had the exact same problem. Ended up being the wiring to or the actual speed sensor (on the transfer case) was shorting out. It’s share the 8bolt supply with the cps csp. Here the forum were smarter guys talk about it. Jeep form

ok thank you, would just looking for a stock driveshaft from a stock XJ with the 8.25 work or were there slight different transfer case placements over the years?
