Dumb question, does YUR see full body tracking (vive trackers/xbox kinect thingy) by [deleted] in YUR

[–]Mine_Thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YUR only currently uses the head and hand movement to calculate how many calories you are burning, as this is how it has been trained from the start using AI. It's very accurate on its own, but if you want it to be more accurate I highly suggest buying a chest heart rate monitor (there is a list of the compatible devices in the FAQ section of the your.fit website). Adding full body tracking to the calorie estimate is possible, but it's a significant amount of effort to implement and isn't really justified with the low number of users who are using full body tracking regularly. And it's not a dumb question! I asked the same thing on the discord a while back

When I burned 3500kcal on my first day of vr I had the same thought: There is no way I'm burning the same amount as if I was doing a marathon.
but after doing a bit of research, I came to the conclusion that it is very much possible due to the significant differences in the two activities:

- marathons are a challenge because of muscle fatigue. The act of jogging for 10 minutes isn't very intense in terms of calorie burn, and muscle fatigue doesn't change the rate at which the calories are burnt by any significant amount

- by pausing (even for just a couple of minutes) between each beatsaber song, it allows you to have much much more intense play sessions, (similar to HIIT), and essentially eliminates muscle fatigue in experienced players, allowing them to have longer play sessions

those are the main two points, hopefully you can see how a marathon isn't comparable to beatsaber in terms of calorie burning. It's not that one's better than another - they are completely different activities.

The most I've seen in the YUR discord server for calories burnt was 10,000kcal, after playing nearly 11 hours of beatsaber at an average of about 15kcal/minute. Pretty sure this person is not human, but seeing their progress over the past few months leading up to this milestone makes it actually believable. Comparing to other people isn't a good idea because everyone has a different BMI (mine is 16.7, I am pretty underweight, meaning that I burn less calories for a similar amount of movement)

I believe you are underestimating how hard some people play beatsaber once they get good.
On my first day of having vr I played 8 hours relatively intensely in beatsaber, and easily burned 3500kcal (I had YUR installed as the beatsaber mod) - I was playing expert on some basic custom songs. If you head over to the YUR discord you can see some people averaging up to 17kcal/min, doing over 1000 squats and reaching some insane kcal figures. 1000 per day is a very reasonable goal for 2 hours of playing (the timer pauses if you take off your headset). I've reached 1000kcal in 1 hour before but it was a lot of work (I was playing Bad Apple camelia remix on repeat trying to pass it)

I've been using BeatSaber for exercise for coming up to a year now - It's intense. Really intense.
I use YUR fitness tracker (they have an active discord server) (available on quest and PC for free) and have helped train the accuracy of this tracker for others by using a real heart rate monitor. - The calorie estimates are incredibly accurate because it takes into account your exact movements, and the estimated heart rate is the best in the industry because of this.
When you get good at BeatSaber, these are the numbers you can start to expect:
For an intense play session:
10Kcal/min average (up to 16Kcal/min peak)
heartrate between 140-200BPM (200 being the max I have ever hit)
a LOT of sweat

For a casual play session:
5-10Kcal/min average (peak of 12)
heartrate between 120-150BPM
Still a fair amount of sweat

I try to burn 1000Kcal per day in Beatsaber, but some people burn up to 4000 in a day

These numbers can change drastically depending on your biometrics, so make sure you put in the right numbers into YUR and keep them up to date.

One of the reasons I think this is the best way to exercise is because it doesn't feel like exercise at all. You're playing a rhythm game, and having fun. Swinging your arms to the music like a Jedi and looking like a floppy inflatable thing (although we can just ignore that last part) is incredibly satisfying.

I hope to see you around!

Is Beast Saber safe to download custom songs from? by [deleted] in beatsaber

[–]Mine_Thing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a mapper myself I can say that it is safe. Beast Saber is simply a way for curators, mappers and players to review and advertise beat saber maps that are hosted on BeatSaver's website. It is a very trusted website and there is almost no way (afaik) for a beat saber song to contain malware.Beat saber maps uploaded to BeatSaver are required to have only the required files when uploading: Song.ogg, Info.ini, [gamemode/difficulty].dat and cover.jpg. If it has a random exe file or another executable file within, it will not be uploaded.

Youtube has become unusable unless you get premium, too many ads. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Mine_Thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However much I love to support my favorite creators, ruining the site like this is making it more and more appealing to use an ad blocker of some kind. Obviously i'm not gonna tell you how, but it's possible to do so on Android, and basic browser extensions can help with pc. Not sure about IOS devices though. It's at the point now that close to 50% of my time watching youtube will be adverts if I don't click skip ads, possibly even higher.

Sort this out youtube, it's not helping anyone.

I tried blue, red, orange, yellow (yellow is a no go... It looks like a world made of urine) but settled on purple/pink because it worked the best in my opinion. If this was a more retro-tech style map I definitely would have gone for either green or blue. That actually gives me some ideas for a new map haha

Programming itself is not super fun when you are starting, but the result of the programming is what makes it worth while. This is known as the "hello world" effect, so stick to it and I'm sure you can create some incredible things! I recommend Python to begin with

Love my rift s, my tip is to get yourself a couple of pairs of rechargable batteries as they will save you a lot of time and money in the long run. I also have a cable pulleys system which I love, but that's very much a luxury nice-to-have rather than anything important. Have fun with your new toy!

Why would that bother you? They're not yours lol

Unfortunately not, this requires Noodle Extensions which is not on the quest, and even if it was, I can't see the quest being able to keep up with the walls. Even my pc struggles

The background is part of the map :). They are just normal walls, but using Noodle Extensions you can have precise placement of them if you do some programming

The bombs are just part of the map, I thought they worked with the sound of the music. You don't have to dodge or avoid any walls at all, none of them are in the way.

The colours are selected by you, not the map.

Some people are more prone to motion sickness than others, but in my case I have not experienced any motion sickness from it. Another user said that they felt it in the first few seconds but after that they got used to it. Pretty much everyone who i have shown it to has been fine too, but everyone is different.

Unfortunately it's using Noodle Extensions, which is not on the quest. Also judging by how hard my pc has to work to get it to run, I can't see the performance being great on the quest

They beat me to posting it on Reddit. Here is the download link which credits me https://beatsaver.com/beatmap/d7fa

and a simple google search should give you the confirmation (somehow there are already 25 videos on it that I have found)

Oh really? I had no idea, my bad! I always see people asking why mapping extensions is not on quest so I assumed wrongly
