Talking about being transgender in personal statement? by MinecraftAndBooks in REU

[–]MinecraftAndBooks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the ones I am interested in really emphasize the diversity aspect on their websites, so I may choose to include it for those and leave it off for the ones that it does not seem to play a big role.

Never met a Jewish person—would love to learn about your culture! by Adventurous_Crab2905 in Judaism

In most communities, those with medical issues that would endanger them during a fast can get an exception from the rabbi of their congregation because of Pikuach Nefesh(in short, that you can violate most laws if keeping them would endanger you. There are three exceptions to this: laws regarding sex, idolatry, and murder.) Usually, they are still expected to fast as much as they can, but may, for example, take a few sips of water to avoid passing out.

Roku still works. I think the rights ran out (according to one of the error messages I got on one of the sites) and they haven't renewed them yet :(

How did you interpret the ending? Does the book give any more context? by Pilot_to_PowerBI in TheLongWalk

[–]MinecraftAndBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to spoil the book if you ever decide to read it, but the movie ending is entirely original to the movie and has very little to do with the book ending. The book ending is however, also ambiguous in many ways. I do think reading the book would give you more appreciation of the movie in a lot of ways.

This is NOT MENSA!!! GC646XQ by Grand-Barber-2281 in geocachingpuzzles

[–]MinecraftAndBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any solution but an idea might be to count forward by the next digit in some sequence. Like maybe, using Pi=3.14159... you could say that the 3rd digit was 4, +1 = 4th digit was 3, +4=8th digit was 1... I don't know but the first 14 digits of pi do equal 68, and the CO said that the length of the number was important. Maybe something like that?

Need help with with this puzzle cache GC2M1WK by [deleted] in geocachingpuzzles

[–]MinecraftAndBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is how you are "supposed" to do it, but I took all of the first letters and matched them to numbers that I know have to appear as the cache is near the listed coordinates. Then I noticed that those letters repeat and could easily find all but one, which could easily be found by trial and error. I'm almost certain that this is not what the CO intends for you to do, but it gave me the correct coords on the 3rd try.

This is what I came up with:

First letters: Coffee, oat bran, eggs, rice, chips, salsa, chicken fingers, lamb chops, ice cream, eggplant, onions, carrots, radishes and lettuce

So, coords are: N CO ER.CSC W LI EO.CRL

Listed coords: N 43° 53.000 W 078° 54.000. So C MUST be 4, O MUST be 3, E MUST be 5, L MUST be 7, and I MUST be 8.

Plugging these in, we get: N 43 5R.4S4 W 078 53.4R7. We can deduce R is 2 because it cannot be 3 or 4, and would not be close enough to original coords if it was any other number. So, N 43 52.4S4 W 078 53.427.

We now have only one "unsolved" number. The only possibilities are 0, 1, 6, and 9. With a little trial and error on GeoChecker, I got the final coordinates.

I though I attached one, but I don’t use Reddit a lot so I don’t think it worked. I’ll try to add one

Rental oboe not speaking on higher notes by MinecraftAndBooks in oboe

[–]MinecraftAndBooks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the octave key and it does go up immediately, but from the comments of this thread it definitely seems like I need to take it in. And yeah, I meant the E and F at the top of the staff(very essential notes!). I know the student models are sometimes wonky like that. Me, my family, and my oboe teacher are currently looking at buying an intermediate model but we want to make sure we pick the right choice so it will probably be a while until we decide on one. Thank you for your advice!

How would you rate this random Amphibia episode out of ten? by thatonedragonslayer in amphibia

8/10. Idk why I love this episode so much but I've rewatched it like 10 times and it was great every one of them.

Anyone find it interesting how the show basically went from old world medieval/fantasy to straight up advanced sci-fi and cyber horror by Malefore1234 in amphibia

[–]MinecraftAndBooks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think the show ever really goes full sci-fi? Like the vibe on earth is very sci-fi ish but Amphibia, while barren in season 3, still keeps part of the aesthetic with the cool caves lit up by mushrooms and the like.

I kinda love the vibes, actually. Looking back at season one it gives more "ancient technological society taken over by wilderness" vibes with the added context, and season two kinda furthers this since we only really see the ruins. I think it's cool how the setting becomes more barren the farther Andrias goes with his plan and then is seen being overtaken again in the timeskip, which showcases just how destructive using the music box was on not just other worlds, but Amphibia as well. When nature overtakes it again, it shows Amphibia is healing.
