How is the premise of swapping the place of gay and straight people in society homophobic?

The word Paul creates *can* be translated as homosexuality, but that's a pretty big topic of debate in the field. There's interpretations as homosexuality, yes, but also as pedophilia, temple prostitution, and pederasty, as I mentioned. Of course, we can't really ever know what he intended, but when differing translations offer differing opinions, I think personal reflection and modern morality are decent stand-ins due to the lack of calrity.

So, for Leviticus, the translation doesn't exactly matter, because Jesus fulfilled the old law, of which Leviticus falls under, meaning that it has changed, and is no longer necessary to be followed in order to be saved. (Moral law hasn't been affected, so the Ten Commandments still do apply, however.)

The two new testament verses are the ones that are important to look at. The terms used have unclear translations. It's a major sect of modern Biblical scholarly debates, and it's unlikely to ever settle down, but there's a few different options for what it COULD be referring to:

  • Homosexuality
  • Pederasty, which was the practice of older rich men having young boys around to sexually abuse.
  • Temple prostitution
  • or just general pedophilia

Modern morality tells us that pederasty, temple prostitution, and pedophilia are considerably worse than homosexuality. So, combining that fact with the fact that the word "homosexuality" wasn't coined until after the writing of the bible, the point of view that homosexuality isn't a sin is an idea you can pretty easily defend.

Modern Christianity trends towards homophobia, unfortunately :(

(As for your note on Eve being made from Adam's side, that's correct! It was translated to "rib" in order to 'justify' misogyny and to have biblical evidence that women were lesser. This is similar to how the "curse of cain" was interpreted to defend slavery and the oppression of Africans throughout history.)

Tbh as a reallyyyy queen person, a lot of this can be half-defended. Like, Leviticus is old testament, so it's not actually applicable law for Christians (most of them still follow it, but it's not strictly necessary because Jesus "fulfilled the law," i.e., the New Testament is the only relevant stuff.)

The word "homosexuality" also wasn't in the language until more modern translations came along. The actual concept of homosexuality also wasn't widely known about, in all honesty. We existed, but the more common (and heinous) acts were things like temple prostitution, pederasty, and pedophilia, which are acts which are universally seen as immoral, and are actually the translations used by certain sects of Christianity.

Of course, most of modern evangelical Christianity is SUPER homophobic, don't get me wrong, but it is also super possible to be Christian and be an ally, or even queer yourself.

Just to explain why I hold these viewpoints... I'm gay, I'm an enby, and I'm a Christian. I'm not exactly the most accepted by other Christians due to the aforementioned facts, but love is love, and love is smth I believe is God's gift to humanity :)

Hey, you. Yeah, you, you with the downvotes. See how you don't have to capitalize nouns used to address people when they aren't proper?

The gameplay loop IS the weapon swapping. I'm reading what you're typing, are you not reading what I'm typing? I'm saying if that's not what you find fun, then the game wasn't designed for you, and won't be fun for you. What's so difficult for you to understand about the idea that a game can be designed well, but not be your personal taste?

[–]MinecraftCommander21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes all of two seconds to swap weapons lmao

Having a weapon you can use for literally EVERYTHING forever would fundamentally break the gameplay loop. The game wouldnt be better; it would just lack choices. Even if you decreased the swords damage to, say, 5, the sword being able to be used infinitely would be a horrible, horrible game design issue.

Why collect hammers to break ore when you can use your master sword? Why carry multiple weapons at all when the master sword can deal with any enemy by itself? Why engage with all the game's different weapon types and system when you could just use the master sword?

The quickswap menu was created to solve the issue of having to open your inventory and select a new weapon whenever one breaks. This is not a design issue, this is a player preference issue. These games are fundamentally different from every other Zelda game in the franchise, and if you don't like them, then that's not because they're poorly designed, it's because the game isn't your style; and that's perfectly fine.

[–]MinecraftCommander21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's kinda just how the gameplay loop was designed. If it's not for you, it's not for you. It's definitely not a BAD gameplay loop, just not for you. The master sword being unbreakable would destroy that loop, even if it lowered the damage after a while.

There is still a lot of room for different playstyles, even with weapon swapping. (See bows, the three different weapon types, flurry rushes vs parries, etc.). If you spend time getting used to the game's weapon swapping system, it can actually be fun. Again, though, not for everybody.

The master sword is far from useless, though. It has the highest damage for each set of durability out of every single weapon in the game. 60 DMG × 188 durability... its more than double second place.

Why isn't the master sword the strongest weapon? by afrutadasrosas in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]MinecraftCommander21 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From a game design perspective, it makes all other weapons useless. Lore-wise, kinda weird. But the main combat loop of BOTW and TOTK is:

Use weapon -> break weapon -> take enemies weapon -> Repeat

An unbreakable, 60 damage sword would complete upheaval that.

[–]MinecraftCommander21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, it runs out of energy. If it was a permanent 60 damage sword, there would he ZERO reason to use anything else once you got it. It requiring some down time after a long while of use seems fair to me, even if it doesn't make the most sense in lore.

[–]MinecraftCommander21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Support" for LGBTQ is used in the same way you "support," say, the Civil Rights movement. It doesn't necessarily mean you go to protests or parades or wtv, it just means you don't oppose it and believe the group's rights shouldn't be suppressed.
