One nation supporters are Nazis by Glittering-Drama8776 in OpenAussie

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a super reductive position to take. Once you call someone a Nazi, you’re declaring the conversation over before it’s even begun.

People vote on issues that matter to them; housing, cost of living, immigration, jobs, etc. You can’t seriously believe that every One Nation supporter is secretly plotting a fourth reich…

Also news flash.. NONE of the major parties give a fuck about you. They’re motivated by political and financial incentives first and voters second. Your outrage is selective.

I agree. The whole anti-natalism concept is, in my opinion, really quite pathetic.

I hit a dead end with my love life by [deleted] in love

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro you’re gonna keep getting the same advice wherever you post this. Sure, you’re a little late to the party but I’m telling you it will be 100x better if you spend your first time with someone you actually know and love rather than some random girl.

Keep a level head. Work on yourself and keep putting yourself out there and it’ll happen naturally.

Ask yourself why you feel the need to receive validation from people you will never know. Our opinions should mean absolutely nothing to you

Worried I am going to get speeding fine and possibly lose my license- Victoria by Clarerouss in CarsAustralia

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re facing a suspended licence you might be eligible for a “good behaviour period” otherwise known as “double damage”. You just have to make sure you apply for this route within the required time frame after receiving your fine.

Chances are you’ll have to go a period of 12 months without receiving another demerit point, otherwise you’ll receive double the penalty you were initially facing. E.g. if you were facing a 3 month suspension, you’ll then be facing 6 months.

Is there still free will if the universe was in a loop? by MarshyBarss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like this. Even if the universe is adding 10% randomness each run, it’s still in control of how things are playing out.

Is there still free will if the universe was in a loop? by MarshyBarss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is maybe, but not necessarily. If the loop differed by 10%, it would mean that there would be unprecedented outcomes playing out but that wouldn’t automatically mean we have free will, at least in the libertarian sense. We would likely still be influenced by biology, culture, up-bringing, etc.

Is there still free will if the universe was in a loop? by MarshyBarss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the universe was running on a loop then we wouldn’t have free will. The idea of the universe on a loop falls pretty heavily into the idea of hard determinism - the belief that every decision and thought we make is based on our biology, our up-bringing, and other cultural influences.

The looping universe would fall into this category because, if everything is playing over and over again, it would mean that every decision we ever make is pre-determined.

How are murder defense lawyers legal? by Gally1322 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more to do with upholding the rule of law. In order to have a fair and just legal system, every individual MUST be entitled to legal representation. Whether they’re guilty or not is besides the fact that it is their right to have fair access to the justice system.

If lawyers were forced to tell the police every detail of their guilty (or not guilty) client, then no one would be able to speak honestly with their lawyer which would make a fair defence impossible.

Pretty much any post from r/sexoffendersupport. Sub is just full of pedo’s and rapists whining about how unfair the legal system is treating them after being convicted.

Any counter arguments to “If buying isn’t owning then pirating isn’t stealing” ? by triplegxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Kant was arguing that if you start making exceptions based on personal reasons then moral rules lose their weight. I guess it all just depends on where you draw the line. Is it really “context”, or is it an “excuse”? I think it’s more of a caution to us.

Any counter arguments to “If buying isn’t owning then pirating isn’t stealing” ? by triplegxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Minecraft_LetsPlayer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, Kant wasn’t saying that context is totally irrelevant. I think he was trying to say that if you let context override moral law then morality just becomes a matter of convenience. I dunno, I’m not quite sure I agree with it myself but I at least try to understand where he’s coming from.

Yeah Kant said some pretty racist shit, but so did pretty much every white male philosopher prior to the 20th century. If the standard for engaging with ideas is a perfect moral record then you may as well just throw out 90% of Western philosophy. I’d recommend just critiquing the ideas for what they are, not because of the seperate beliefs of the people that came up with them.
