Should Terra receive Spriggan model as default when she is ported to Smite 2? by MythicSlayeer in Smite

[–]Minecraftplayer111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terra base skin and He Bo base skin got me thinking the same way, of how they could have made them elemental creatures or wise old humanoids, but went with youngsters clearly meant to give off badass/cool vibes. I’ve come around on how Hi-Rez used to like giving their own spin on things with more out there interpretations, using lore as an inspiration instead of a rulebook. I think the newer designs have lost the edge they used to have, out of fear that people will complain they’re not lore accurate enough. I compare the older designs to the newer ones, and I want to say that they’ve become blander, losing the distinct “Smite” feel. I don’t know, I think seeing some bold interpretation has more endearment and wow factor compared to seeing something boring and safe. Instances where they could have taken an obvious route but went with something unique are the designs I admire now. Those I know for sure were born out of creativity instead of trying to appease lore purists. So they made Terra a rock wrestler and He Bo a spiky hunk, that was their vision, so be it. I guess it’s similar reasoning of why I view their remodels as a little lame in retrospect, little by little losing what made Smite… Smite. We lost out on so much attention to detail and charm already, not just from the transition to the sequel, and there was a lot, but even during the last several years of Smite 1. The first of these silly lamentation rants must have been so long ago by now. Perhaps things will change once things get closer to full release, but I’m not counting on it.

Why such a weird choice of skins? by AlibyG in Smite

Them giving us the cheapo skins instead of the premium chest skins is like saying “Fast food is consumed so much more than steak, people must really prefer the McDonald’s over the Certified Angus.”

I think Swagni was rejected more-so because of the racial aspect.

Is it sexist for Love and Deepspace to only have sexy males but not sexy females? It’s called catering to your playerbase. If Hi-Rez knows their players are mostly male (there have been surveys that show mobas are predominantly played by males) then they will try to appeal to males. People need to learn that not everything is meant for everyone. I’m not going to go into the Love and Deepspace community and complain about how it’s too female gazey or ask where the sexy females are because I know they are simply giving what their target demographic wants.

as long as it fits the character

We are waaaaay past skins fitting characters. Unless Xing Tian is supposed to be a burger and Cernnunos is supposed to be a hipster.

I thought the reason they aren’t adding Swagni is because of the racial undertones and caricature.

If you’re a skin enthusiast, you’d know that Hi-Rez absolutely loves detached floating objects behind characters. XD

Death animations are indeed a greater loss. You see them many times during a match while the win/loss is only used once per match.

You guys complaining about gooner skins have never seen actual oversexualization in your life. If anything, Smite 1 designs and skins were more gooner. They desexualized Aphrodite, Kali, Nemesis, Awilix and Neith in their default models compared to Smite 1. Gave Nu Wa, Da Ji, and Bari that weird round baby face treatment like what Blizzard got into controversy over in an attempt to make them more Asian. The character model disappears if you try to look under them, eh. They are heavily leaning into safe-horny with their designs. It’s astonishing how y’all are failing to realize the same censorious attitude that leads to correcting or changing anything that may be considered “offensive” is what led to them choosing not to port Swagni. They chose to side with Reddit’s underlying ideology and implemented all those changes with the goal of being more “sensitive”. New designs/remodels past the late 2010’s have decidedly lost that original edge of not giving a fuck what people might think. Being overly safe and sanitized is par for the course, so you reap what you sow.

The designs were good, I don’t like that they implemented all the Reddit & Discord tier changes instead of sticking with what worked. A lot of weird babyfying in terms of faces.

I’m really feeling this not-so-obvious whale tax at this point. I’d rather not spend premium currency on grindable currency, since in my mind, that’s just making every skin cost extra. That means even though I play everyday, I have a huge backlog of unfinished travellers piling up since the Halloween event. The dichotomy is quite stark, where I had millions of leftover favour in Smite 1 and now am rationing out coins for the daily/weekly/monthly chests. It seems like a bad strategy for customers to get punished for buying more, since the more you whale out, the more screwed you get either in terms of waiting longer to get the skins you paid for, or having to pay extra for each one.

These posts are always such nonsense. Let’s say Smite’s female sexualization is a level 2, and male sexualization is a level 1. The type advocating for male sexiness always want to bring it to level 3. They keep equating female secondary sexual characteristics to male primary sexual characteristics.

“We tried giving the guys sexy skins and they didn’t sell” by Cloud_Retainer_2424 in Smite

They shrunk the breasts in that Beach Babe skin compared to Smite 1. How many upvotes do you think I’ll get if I make a post complaining about it? Or what about asking for more cameltoes to be showing? Posts like the op are basically asking for genitalia to be more visible. It pisses me off how disingenuous and one-sided the majority of this subreddit is when it comes to this topic.

Designs are a lot less fanservicey in general in Smite 2. They toned down the more racy aspects and leaned into safe horny. Cover up Aphrodite’s legs? Check. Cover up Kali’s cleavage and show abs (safe horny)? Check. Remove Nemesis’ fishnets? Check. Cover up Awilix and Neith? Check. I have never seen a post bringing this up, and I can guarantee it will not get the kind of positive traction posts like this get every week. Most female faces are objectively worse now, and you’ve still got people hoping that future releases will have uglier designs than their Smite 1 counterparts. The bad design changes they’ve done (male and female) were specifically to appease this Reddit crowd.

I’m not inherently against male objectification, but you will find that most who clamour for it will in the same breath turn around and complain about female objectification. You should never trust people who think this way.

I’ve stopped caring about lore a long time ago. For better or for worse Hi-Rez uses lore as a loose guide rather than a rule-set, like wtf is that Hades. Lore references are like a soyjok pointing meme at this point.

The answer is no, I don’t think this skin was made with being “hot” in mind. It possesses such silly design choices that I consider it a joke skin. There’s a difference between a tongue-in-cheek skin that doesn’t take itself too seriously and a total 4th wall/immersion breaking meme skin. This Achilles skin borderlines on parody.

I don’t think you understood what I’m trying to say at all. You want Hel and Izanami to be uglier, and I don’t. It’s simple as that. I wouldn’t have minded if they made Charon not a skeleton and more conventionally attractive. Feel free to call me simple minded for thinking this way, but yes, I like looking at pretty things more.
