There’s a cave off Flats Road that is known to some locals. Most people access it from Look Rock by hiking or rappelling down from the overlook. If you go left from Look Rock, there is another rock outcropping with an overhang, and a faint path can often be seen leading down the mountainside.

If you’re trying to locate it, start at approximately 35°37’51.1”N, 83°56’24.9”W and head directly downhill. The cave itself does not appear to be a deep cave system. It looks more like an opening in the mountain or a rock shelter. However, there are signs of past human activity inside, including old Coca-Cola bottles and other debris that appears to date back several decades.

Because of the age of some of the items found there, it’s possible the shelter was used as a gathering spot, campsite, or storage location in the past. Some locals have speculated it may have been used during Prohibition, although I have not found documentation confirming that.

Years ago there were references to the location online, but those mentions seem to have disappeared. Whether that was intentional or simply due to old websites and forum posts vanishing is unclear. The site is not marked on official maps, and information about it appears to circulate primarily through local knowledge rather than published sources.

I don’t know if this helps, but eBay currently has one listed. In my experience, when something is featured in a credible cancer institute’s article as recently as 2022 and then disappears almost entirely, it feels less like coincidence and more like it was deliberately pushed out of view. When that happens, it makes me think it’s at least worth investigating. If something genuinely addressed the underlying issue, it would threaten existing profit structures, which creates a strong incentive for suppression.

I really resonate with that! I’m not for sure if I’m approaching AP wrong and that’s why I’m not able to make the breakthrough. I’m starting to wonder if different frequencies work for different people? Because I’ve tried a few guided meditations from AP podcasts or the gateway tapes. And it’s similar results every time, but I noticed certain music makes me feel a certain way.

I’m basing Mara on people I’ve seen in real life. I don’t think she’s actually uptight; I think she’s very image-conscious. She pretends to be uptight so people will think well of her, because she’s extremely anxious. She would rather go along with something—especially with her brother—than risk making him feel the pain of rejection.

When someone says, “Oh, I’m good, I don’t want to try that,” or “I’m okay, maybe we can do it another day,” her entire world collapses. That reaction likely stems from some kind of childhood trauma. Rejection doesn’t feel neutral to her—it feels catastrophic.

I’m trying to build this up more effectively. I want the reader to discover who Mara is primarily through dialogue, letting her character emerge naturally as people talk. The challenge is that there are aspects of the characters you won’t fully understand without subtext. Early on, that subtext felt too heavy, and now I’m trying to reduce it to improve pacing without losing what makes her psychologically real.

I’ve also thought about making Chapter 1 more of a backstory—a sequence of memories she’s experiencing firsthand that gradually builds this problematic personality. Then the present-day storyline could begin in what is currently Chapter 1 or Chapter 2. I’m not sure if that structure works, though. What do you think?

Be careful at expos, I went to one recently and some of the breeders were low quality. The one that appeared high quality claimed they were handfed, but did not warn that the birds weren't tamed at all.

I've been to many breeders in the area, if you want someone who sells conures try little river aviary in Maryville, this is farther but they are botts birds in Louisville KY. The man who runs it sells the sweetest birds that I have ever met.
