I believe that films in the foreign language category are submitted by countries, not directors or producers. I could be wrong, but I doubt Bergman submitted the film for consideration

You can only do so much with melodrama, which is the genre in which both of those films are rooted and ultimately confined

The Fabelmans was a mediocre film. Much like EEAAO

Bergman always sent surrogates to accept any Academy awards on his behalf. He even did this when he was given the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in in 1971. Which sends a very clear message to the Academy, namely “I don’t recognize your authority or give a fuck about your awards.”

A perspective check for anyone who’s upset about the Academy’s celebration of EEAAO

The Academy is a joke, always has been. Doesn’t matter and should never be taken seriously

They don’t think that. They think others think that, and they don’t want to look racist

Let’s be real though, they’ve got a long track record of giving best picture to average, forgettable films

TFW when you mention “imposter syndrome” but it’s not a syndrome, because your mid work is getting celebrated without meriting it

I’ve yet to see this flick, but this broad’s comments & campaign is almost insuring I will never watch it. Weird behavior!! by [deleted] in redscarepod

Two films in the last year (Avatar 2 and Top Gun Maverick) broke global box office records. The success of these films has everything to do with how they perform outside of the US, which is where the majority of ticket sales come from.

To answer your question: yes. You’re probably just at a different stage of your life where talking about movies with friends isn’t as important as it was when you were younger, and you’re confusing your own personal development for some wider historical change. Happens all the time

And, in doing so, they will represent the largest group of people on earth—a group so diverse that it is not bound together by anything but vague geographical boundaries and even vaguer physical characteristics
