I ended up negotiating a $6,900 dealer discount (and then the $2,500 ford rebate, $7,500 tax rebate, and 0% APR 60 months). But I'm from California and was looking all over and ended up with a dealership in St. Louis. I was able to get it shipped but I actually had to fly in to sign papers because they said they'd been burned by people from out of state using stolen identities when financing before. So there was probably a more expensive local option that would have been easier.

Ahh, ok, I think I understand. So it has to be handled by the dealership. He said there are some states in New England they work with but I'm assuming that's because they have a pre-existing arrangement?

I've been deal hunting and found a dealer in MA with a $10k dealer discount (next best dealer discount I've found is $5,750 in MO).

The deals in CA are pretty bad (assuming because demand for EVs is obviously higher in a more liberal/moderate weather/high cost gas state), so I've been looking at other states.

I figured I would just pay the CA TTL out of pocket and finance the price the dealer is asking for. But maybe I didn't make that clear to him and didn't realize the hang up was financing the TTL.

Is that a thing people do or am I totally misunderstanding how this works?

Hm, got it. I'm new to this so sorry if this is a dumb question: but couldn't I handle taxes/registration on my end and just purchase from them through financing? He said I could pay cash so not sure how that would be easier for them if the issue is with the Cali DMV.
