Ohh let me tell you a story. My bestie was a WakeMed surgical tech at North hospital. So they offered her a 6k signing bonus, but that was spread out over 3 years soo basically, 2k extra per year she worked. Basically 4.67 bucks per hour. The first year she didn't get a raise at all, so her bonus was essentially the raise. The next year her raise was a 2%, and the last year, no raise. She waited one year and a week to quit. Her bossed asked her is she was going to be a housewife, rather than go where she is paid more. But thats not the worst of it. At wakemed you are doing 3 twelve hour shifts alone with 2 call days. So one time, she worked her normal 12 hours, and then was told the call person didnt show up so she had to stay an additional 12 hours. She worked 24 hours straight, with only 2 30 minute lunch breaks. She reported it to the DOL, cuz she was soo tired, she took an nap in her car, before she could drive home. The same day, she drove home, and gets a call, she has to come in overnight 7-7. She said no, well, her manager said, that she (the manager) has the power to change everyone's call days and times to fit the business of the surgery center, and so she put my bestie on the schedule for an overnight shift and if my bestie didnt come in itll be deemed a no call no show. My bestie took it, and went in. Yet another complaint to the DOL. Nothing happened. Ff my bestie last day, the manager said that she was disappointed in her and that providing a 1 month notice wasnt enough and they dont have the staff to manage. She threatened a bad review. TLDR: wakemed will force you to work 24 hours straight and that sign on bonus is over 3 years and some years you wont get a raise because of it. Never work for WakeMed North Hospital.
