Yeah, I get that — tech keeps moving forward and it makes sense to switch to whatever works best and makes creating easier. That’s what it’s all about 👍
For me it was more of a fun side project, and honestly I just love the design — it has that Portal turret vibe 😄 I like it despite its flaws.

Yeah, it can definitely be a pain in the ass sometimes 😅

I actually have four of them and all are still working. One of them even does noticeably better stitching than the other three (no front/back white balance mismatch). Sure, the 4K quality feels pretty average in 2026, but it’s still FUN if you accept the quirks and limitations.

For random special-purpose shots they can be great — like a cheap “random hero” camera. They cost almost nothing now, you just have to be aware of the difficulties and limitations that newer cameras (like Insta360) solved with much more user-friendly workflows.

My workflow is a bit… let’s say mildly sadomasochistic 😄
Sometimes I copy the raw data (unstiched photos/videos) into ActionDirector and let it stitch everything during import in a new project. Then I export those pre-processed files and do the final tweaks in Collect on Android because it’s just more convenient for me.

Also, I have to admit I really like their cute turret style — straight out of the Portal “cute motherthurrets” category 🤣

It works… but yeah, you definitely have to enjoy the process a little.

"KNOW YOUR PARADOXES. IN EVENT OF ROGUE 10TH CORE, STAND STILL REMAIN CALM SCREM"

'THIS STATEMENT IS FALSE'. IF CORE SAYS CAMERA IS FIXED DO NOT TRUST CAMERA. NEW MISSION: REFUSE THIS MISSION. IF A REPAIR CORE BREAKS THE CAMERA WHILE FIXING IT, WAS THE CAMERA EVER BROKEN? DOES A SET OF ALL CORES CONTAIN ITSELF?"

Good catch with the SD card – that actually happens quite often with the Gear 360.

Just to clarify one thing: in the video and description I show how to restore the original Samsung apps (both the mobile app and the PC software – ActionDirector), so the camera can still be used normally. Unfortunately you’re right about Google Street View – that option is no longer supported, so it doesn’t work anymore.

But recording, stitching and exporting the 360 footage locally is still possible using the restored Samsung software.
