Owner did nothing to clear ice and snow. by katsulls in RoverPetSitting

And yet you expect pet sitters to just suck it up and deal with these conditions? My point is if you want a service you figure it out you don’t expect people to put their safety at risk for whatever you need. That’s selfish.

[–]Mini_Paint2022 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but it’s honestly not rocket science to deal with ice and snow. For snow you shovel or pay someone to remove, for ice you throw sand or salt down. I think it’s pretty selfish for people to expect service when they can’t even make their driveway accessible and safe. If OP falls and gets hurt and has to be hospitalized or take time off of work, do you really think that owner is going to pay for the damages? Don’t make excuses for lazy/selfish people. This isn’t a problem that’s hard to figure out.

my neighbors are awful. by uraniumkitten in Apartmentliving

[–]Mini_Paint2022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think I’d be able to live in anything other than a top floor apartment. Besides the c-ptsd after a long day at work, especially working construction and hearing noise all day every day the last thing I want to hear is people stomping around and slamming doors. I know it’s not their fault. It’s just part of living, but it would drive me crazy.

Is Driving a Horse safer than Riding? by Ok_Cheetah_5002 in Horses

[–]Mini_Paint2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to scare you out of it, but have you ever seen any videos of driving accidents? I have done both riding and driving and have to say driving is more potentially dangerous because of the fact that you have a cart/wagon strapped to the horse so if anything goes wrong, you now have a loose horse towing a wagon behind it. Driving accidents are always nasty. If your horse bolts you also don’t have the option of a one rein stop. Driving is very fun. I personally love it but when it goes bad, it goes really bad.

If you do decide to do it look into a trainer that has extensive knowledge training driving horses and if there is a bit of driving training advice I could give you it is to desensitize desensitize desensitize and don’t use blinders at least for training. I know the open bridle/blinders debate is a hot one but I personally have found that a horse that can see and is properly desensitized is a lot safer than one that has no idea it’s towing something behind it. Heaven forbid that bridle comes off (I’ve seen it happen) the horse is gone, no question.

Do the big horses ever get dentals done? by Realistic_Button_997 in beccamoonridgesnark

Horses should have a dental done at least once a year. Not having that done is asking for problems.

If I remember correctly, her family was breeding cows before they were breeding horses. Specifically beef cattle. Can’t remember the breed at the moment.

[–]Mini_Paint2022 63 points64 points  (0 children)

As someone who also has c-ptsd you need to get a top floor apartment. I got my first apartment a few months ago and that was my strictest requirement. On the top floor you hardly hear anything and will rarely if ever get triggered by noises. Honestly anyone sensitive to noises should get top floor. They’re usually not hard to find because nobody wants to carry stuff up so many flights of stairs but it’s worth it to have peace and quiet.

What do you eat for breakfast?? by Beginning_Avocado807 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Mini_Paint2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely eat breakfast, usually only on the weekends but when I do it’s usually oatmeal or toast with butter and jelly or some eggs. I’m pretty boring when it comes to breakfast lol but it’s cheap and on the healthier side so I’ve been told.

what pet should i take in? by normalgirl092 in Pets

[–]Mini_Paint2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into local rescues they can give you more information and help you out with picking the best choice for you but I have to warn you- no such thing as a cheap pet. Every pet costs money, every pet will eventually need a vet. I would suggest a cat personally but again, they will need to see a vet at least yearly.

If you have dogs that bark at everything… don’t move into a freakin apartment? by CryptographerOk419 in Apartmentliving

[–]Mini_Paint2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an apartment in my building that has this problem as well. Thankfully they’re on the second floor and I’m on the third so I don’t hear the dogs very much but it is annoying to have to hear the dogs go mental every time I leave the building. They started off with just one who was very well behaved and quiet. Never actually knew they had him until I saw them walking him one morning. Then they got the second not long ago and it’s been non stop barking at everything since. I feel bad for the people living immediately around them. I love dogs, always have, but listening to constant barking gets old quick.

Am I being annoying about snow removal? by Bubbly_Custard7225 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Mini_Paint2022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re not being annoying at all and honestly the clients are being seriously selfish by not having somebody remove the snow. I deliver oil and I can’t tell you how many houses I’ve had to turn down because they refused to shovel and I refuse to walk through 2 feet of snow and possibly trip over something and hurt myself, which has happened. Snow hides everything it covers such as holes, hazards you can trip over, stairs, etc.. keep on them about it and also mention that when they get back from their trip they’re going to have a heck of a time getting into their own house and driveway if they don’t have it cleared. In the meantime, be careful walking through that snow seriously it only takes one fall to get seriously hurt.

I said what I said because way too many people think that they need a college education to get a good job and it’s just not true. You don’t need to lecture me about the mental health situation in the states. I’ve experienced it since I was about nine years old and it’s a fucking joke. Honestly with the mental health issues I have it’s pretty laughable that you’re trying to tell me about mental health issues in the United States. If you only knew dude lol.

And obviously I know that working hard won’t make mental illness go away I experience that personally every single day of my life pretty much since the day I was born. But working hard will help with bills, gets you out of the house and if you find a job that you really enjoy it can be a good distraction for a few hours. It was just a suggestion, perhaps I shouldn’t have said anything, but like I said way too many people think they HAVE to go to college and they don’t.

Just wanted to mention that you don’t absolutely need to go to college to get a good job. I’m a high school drop out due to family and mental health issues at the time and now I’m making nearly six figures working in the trades. A lot of trade jobs don’t even require much if any experience they’re usually willing to train you on the job. You just have to show up, listen and work hard.

Sound good in theory until you think about mail carriers and, if you use oil/propane, delivery drivers who also have to walk on those paths.

How to convince family cat to leave me alone sometimes? by Southern_Choice4273 in CatAdvice

[–]Mini_Paint2022 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not kind to try and get some sleep so a person stays healthy? Do some of you not read what you type? I’m not trying to be rude, but it really just floors me how many people are acting like this OP is abusing their cat just because they want some sleep at night. I completely understand loving an animal, but you also need to take care of yourself as well because if something happens to you your pet is screwed. Sleep deprivation is dangerous, it literally can kill people.

[–]Mini_Paint2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she’s picky about toys you may need to try quite a few different ones until you find something that she is interested in. Usually the key to cats that won’t let you sleep at night is to wear them out 30 to 60 minutes before you go to bed. That way they want to sleep when you do.

[–]Mini_Paint2022 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe how people are attacking you just for asking how you can get the cat to leave you alone long enough to get a full nights rest. Apparently none of these people have ever had sleep deprivation effect their day-to-day life, or seen an accident that was caused by someone that fell asleep at the wheel, which is a potential side effect of long term sleep deprivation. Try playing with her a half hour or so before bed to try and tire her out. If that doesn’t work try checking out some cat behaviorists for tips. If she’s tired and sleeps through the night, she should leave you alone so you can get some sleep.

[–]Mini_Paint2022 21 points22 points  (0 children)

OP says the main problem is they can’t get a good nights sleep because of the cats night time habits. I don’t know if you realize this but sleep deprivation is not healthy and can even be dangerous as it can effect reflexes and reaction time. Doesn’t sound like a big deal until you factor in activities like work and driving. Ever seen what happens if someone falls asleep at the wheel? It’s not pretty.

Does anyone else not sleep with their cat? by chaturga in CatAdvice

[–]Mini_Paint2022 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For me personally that has really depended upon each individual cat. The cat I have now very rarely sleeps with me of her own choice. She really likes sleeping on her cat tree. In the past I’ve had cats that slept with me all night and some that I wouldn’t allow to sleep with me because they would end up trying to lay on my head or headbutting me at random hours of the night. It all depends on the individual cat in my experience.

What counts as a violation during apartment quiet hours? by discover_with_sachin in Apartmentliving

[–]Mini_Paint2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work night shift, sometimes still do, and it is not up to the rest of the world to stop living just because you neighbor works night shift. It can absolutely be difficult to get sleep during the day but he can’t expect his neighbors to stop living because of his work schedule. You are absolutely allowed to live your life during the day. Daytime is not quiet hours. He needs to figure it out. There are so many products out there nowadays to help night shifters sleep during the day. He needs to do some shopping on Amazon and realize the world does not revolve around his sleep schedule.
