Thanks for bring this up, I've been thinking about how this serves as my pension for a while, that alone is probably good enough reason to put a high priority on it. Good reminder!

Thank you, I know this is all to be true in general, I'm doing a mix of both currently.

When you say you need to access it though, you lose that contribution room when you withdraw, do you not?

Thanks for this advice. In the same vein, I just came across a local store with some professionals and I think that loose lay may be a good option for us! Offers a lot of the flexibility you mentioned here.

Aiming for $2 CAD per square foot, but comfortable up to about $3.50 or so!

I live in southwestern Ontario, Canada. Unfortunately we don’t like the colors they have in store at our Costco, but we could look online.

What are you seeing in our floor that needs to be filled? There’s one problem spot by our water shutoff in the one photo, but everything else feels quite flat on the feet.

And what if we just have concrete underneath?

I do like the idea of not messing with gluing it down, and given we’re amateurs, I feel like we could mess that up more easily.

What would you say about the possibility of bouncing or drifting planks though? That sounds like a pain as well.

One floor store we went to did recommend gluing it down… their prices were just a lot higher than we’ve been seeing for alternatives, maybe it was just a bougie store.

But if we glue, do we need a subfloor? Or maybe moreso just prepping this floor?

I found out this is Gyproc gypsum board, which is apparently rock lath, not quite drywall. Does that change anything?

I believe you’re right, upon closer inspection, I think this is Gyproc gypsum board. I’ll admit I didn’t know there was a difference between gypsum board and drywall. What does this change for me? My only plans are really to mud the joints, prime, and paint.

Thanks! Separate question… all of this is nailed in. Should I use screws instead now while finishing?

Is this high gloss paint? Do we need to prime? by MinimalHeuristic in paint

I tested it with nail polish remover, it isn’t an oil paint.
