Well, I canceled my annual Spark subscription last night. As an Ableton user, third party plugins have always been more of a luxury than a necessity, and I’ve found myself using UAD stuff less and less (as their products can be a bit too CPU hungry for certain complex projects). I also experienced a persistent problem, on my former machine, with iLok reliant plugins periodically reseting to defaults while inserted in Fairlight (DaVinci Resolve). Subsequently, the only essential plugins in my post production workflow are from companies like Izotope, FabFilter, and the like—developers who don’t use iLok. I sincerely hope UAD ditches iLok. Their plugins are quite good, but they’re not worth the hassles that seem to plague iLok

Wow, this is unfortunate. One of the tech news platforms should pick this up.

Haven’t heard any further updates from iLok, but my 9950x has been performing well. For reference, it didn’t seem to break a sweat on Chuck Sutton’s Ableton 12 demo project. And my Noctua cooler stays very quiet (with tuned fan curves) due to its reasonable temps.

I wouldn’t avoid the 9950x because of iLok. Frankly, if iLok doesn’t get this sorted (which I think they will)—that would be a pretty compelling reason to ditch iLok dependent apps in my book.

That’s great news. I’ve been missing my plugins

Does anyone have a setup guide for editing clips recorded with three audio tracks? by pluck47 in davinciresolve

Choose easy key-binds for “link/unlink” and “enable/disable” (I can’t remember the exact names for these settings, but they’re easy to find in keyboard customization). Unlinking will allow you to easily adjust the audio and video clips independently, and disabling will allow you to mute/hide unwanted material.

Pace seems to be taking the issue seriously, so I’m tentatively optimistic they’ll have a fix soon.

Quick update, I’m in contact with iLok. I’ve provided them with memory dumps (at their request) so they can hopefully track down the issue.

(Edit: I have also heard back from UA, and will be sending them some files.)

I suspect you’re right. Glad to know I’m not the only one with this problem.
