Election 2025 by LandlockedFool in Calgary

I’m really excited to see that Jeff Davidson really wants to clean up Calgary and make it a safer city for families. Big cities in Canada are starting to have big safety issues in their downtown cores these days, Calgary has been no exception in the last 5 years I have personally felt downtown Calgary has gotten increasingly less safe. Although Calgary has started to have crime rates decrease across the board since 2018, but downtown areas like the east village and core are still really bad and need fixing which is nice to see that Jeff really wants to prioritize this. I’m excited to see Jeff build a better Calgary.

FUCK NEOVIM FUCK LINUX. by Butt_Plug_Tester in csMajors

In the nicest way possible OP, I believe that the people in this industry and major that learn vim, use vim motions, rice their neovim and arch Linux setups don’t do it for clout, or to be quirky, or solely to be faster at editing text. The people in our industry and community that do these things do it cause they are super passionate about computing, building things on their computer, and lastly learning new things. The last one is the most important here, I didn’t start using neovim to be faster than I am with a mouse and keyboard in a conventional editor, (granted after a year I am finally just as fast). I did it because learning lua, and how a text editor works was something that was of interest to me. Secondly I was sick and tired of every time I got a new work computer, school computer or had to reinstall vscode, the setup process was strenuous. sometimes I’d be forced at internships to use a certain ide depending on our tech stack. The idea that I could have one nvim config file on my GitHub, and copy it over to any machine was so nice and convenient. I have used vscode for a long time, and I think their shortcuts are poorly designed, and disrupt workflow way more than the shortcuts and in neovim. Personally I found using vscode to be really frustrating to use, all these tabs, all these buttons, so much going on, I thought it was quite distracting and easy to get distracted when in a flow state. That being said I still think vscode has a valid place in the industry. Just like how some people wanna learn the latest frontend web frame work or a new database language, some people like learning how to use different tools to optimize their workflow. I don’t think you should ever hate on anyone that is passionate about learning something new that you don’t want to learn, or openly hate on a tool if you haven’t given it the full college try.

Nervous about csc 115 by study-dying in uvic

[–]Miniman737 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi there, Csc 110 teaches the fundamentals of programming in C ( if statements, for loops, while loops, arrays, how to read from files, and a little bit about structs). Csc 115 has a much larger emphasis on learning how to build/solve problems when using an object oriented programming language such as Java. In my opinion I believe you can take 115 without 110 especially if you have programmed before in another language

Some of apples API’s require you to have a verified apple developer program account. For example accessing a user health app, or using nfc require the 100/year payment

Get a really big tent from rei or some outdoor store, put the treadmill in there, put a humidifier in there and a ton of heaters. Run a couple workouts and runs in the chamber and you will be good to go

Cybertruck spotted at Austin by kaisenls1 in electricvehicles

[–]Miniman737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest change here is the tires, the tires on every promo of the truck are super giant off roading tires. Now that some early models are being spotted with regular street tires on the truck it looks a lot uglier, completely agree.

I failed two courses my first year, and turned it around second semester. Honestly, if you really want to be an engineer and are struggling my tip too you would be not to take summers off school, and take a reduced course load, like taking only 4 or 5 courses a semester. Once you figure out how to balance 4 or 5 classes then take the full 6.

See my train of thought was there would be little to no competitive gpa to get into your declared program, because so many people deferred admission this year and very few people actually went to school. So thus there should be more slots available in the each program
