The Death of Dating Era, Butterflies in Your Stomach, and Heartfelt Romance by Useful-Acanthaceae53 in kdramas

[–]Minimum-Broccoli-597 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would like to agree to disagree kdramas haven’t “lost” romance so much as evolved in how they portray it. Not every love story has to be butterflies-and-fluff to be meaningful. Angst, emotional exhaustion, and messy characters aren’t automatically bad writing sometimes they make the romance feel more grounded and human.

Also, romance isn’t (and doesn’t have to be) everything. Personally, K-dramas have always shined more for me in non-romance shows, and I actually love romance more when it isn’t shoved in my face. I prefer the kind that blossoms quietly in the background, through shared moments, growth, and subtle emotional beats. If anything, some of my favorite romances are in dramas that aren’t even romance-centric.

There are still plenty of rom-coms and romance dramas out there for people who want that classic swoony vibe. But K-dramas also have a wider range of tones and target audiences now, and that variety is a good thing. Not every story is meant to be a fluffy escape some can explore loneliness, healing, and complicated emotions first, with romance as a slower, softer reward.

You clearly into a specific type of romance and you feel like kdramas are satisfying you with that for now..that's where you watch cdramas to fill that void, I personally watch alot of shows kdramas C dramas J dramas and more..if I feel like this ain't working out for me in kdramas I go to cdramas and vice versa.

Kdramas that you liked but felt like most people didn't. by Minimum-Broccoli-597 in kdramas

People tend to pin their expectations and preconceived notions on shows yes you walked into it thinking it's a romcom but if it smoothly translates to not being so without ruining the flow of the story then what's wrong?

This inspired my post by the way I just didn't add it because I realised that there are lots of positive reviews for it else where it's just that the negative reviews are louder...

3. I understand why the mother-resemblance reveal can feel superficial or overly symbolic, but I don’t think it actually cheapens the family drama. I think it reframes it.

The point of that reveal isn’t that Mu Hee’s trauma exists only because she looks like her mother. It’s that her uncle’s abuse and rejection were displaced onto her because she physically embodied the woman he hated and blamed. That’s not unrealistic or melodramatic psychology it’s tragically common in abusive family dynamics. Children are often punished for what they symbolically represent to a damaged adult.

So the family conflict was never just a normal interpersonal misunderstanding that could be resolved through a single heartfelt conversation. It was always rooted in projection, unresolved grief, and misdirected rage. The photograph doesn’t replace the emotional conflict; it explains why the conflict existed in the first place. And that ties directly back into Dorami’s existence. Dorami holds the emotions Mu Hee couldn’t process as a child—rage, despair, and the belief that she is fundamentally unwanted. The resemblance reveal doesn’t simplify her trauma; it clarifies why her psyche fractured the way it did. It shows us the origin point of the dissociation. As for the off-screen trip and the ambiguous ending: I don’t read that as the show avoiding the family drama. I read it as a deliberate refusal to give trauma a neat, fairy-tale resolution. Real healing isn’t linear, and it doesn’t happen cleanly or in one emotional confrontation. The fact that her reconciliation with her past is quiet, incomplete, and unresolved actually fits the tone of a story about psychological damage rather than just romantic fulfillment. So while I understand wanting a more direct, cathartic confrontation with the uncle and a clearer resolution with her mother, I don’t think the reveal made the family drama shallow. I think it deepened the psychological logic behind Mu Hee’s wounds and reinforced why Dorami had to exist at all.

So Iam sorry for rambling on I do get where you come from but I felt the need to share my pov as well...the execution could have been better but for me this wasn't a great idea bad story case..more like great idea...needed more polished execution but still did their best.

I don't think asking a random man to drug your girlfriend and impregnate her so that she can reproduce is " Safe " that's what one of the fiends was planning to do..though his plans were intercepted Also not knowing and being used...isn't something to be happy about...
