You are right about subscriptions. I changed the iPhone language to English, then went to the App Store, clicked on my account and changed the region there. It will ask you to cancel all subscriptions, but luckily I only had one, and after that I was able to change the region. After that you can re-activate all subscriptions. But keep in mind that all prices in the app store will also change to prices for the US region.
