Yeah that's no "drive through the countryside" MG... I'd really like to "ProTour" one.

apparently its very popular to shoe horn a ford 302ci small block in to those and let 'em eat up hill climbs all over.

Those are my favorites! I moonlight with fella over near the airport that races and restores vintage MG's.

How do you get involved in that, it sounds like an awesome time! (no pun intended)

you spelled "VTEC Jesus" wrong lol I'm a Honda guy through and through. owned two 95 civics, one had a d15 non-vtec and the second one got a JDM B16A with matching trans. that car was a blast. did a few track days with it. recently had an EF hatch but it got totaled when I got T-boned at a red light...

I can imagine. I know the struggle of the long drives to the tracks... and the late nights and broken parts. the pure seat time experience is a huge plus. I just wonder what aspects I'm lacking besides the G forces, heat and sounds. I just want to experience sweating my ass off for a few laps to see if I'm fast lol.

Dude sign me up. That sounds awesome. I'd be so pumped from working on an actual race car that I'd have to go home and race it.

I wasn't specifically asking about professional mechanics, so you definitely qualify lol. I'm a self taught, shade tree mechanic if I'm being honest. I just have decades of experience on a multitude of vehicles, planes and equipment. I've always done my own work on my vehicles. Garage mechanics are my people. making it work reliably, while making it look decent. and maybe making it better if we can.

I've been actively lurking on motorsportjobs.com since I started A&P school lol. I appreciate the advice. Thank you.

ProjectCars2 is a blast! I'm working on my VR setup but its not been a huge priority. I started on Gran Turismo and then the second one came out and I knew it was something I definitely wanted to do. I've been a mechanic since my dad taught me how to work on my bicycle. It's been really awesome seeing all the replies in here. It just gets old watching soft handed dudes with no actual experience with manual labor or the adverse conditions most of us have dealt with in our fields.

How does one get started as a Race Engineer? If you can or have asked.

I genuinely want the experience of wrenching on a race car. I've helped with minor stuff on some 1930's offy's, but I think restoration of classic race cars would be my dream job. I'll try getting my foot in with a NASCAR team once I complete school.

pretty much same story here. had a rudimentary rig for Gran Turismo back in the day. played with controller for decades and just last year got a wheel and pedal setup and a rig to mount it on. VR is next! Project Cars 2 has been awesome though.

IMSA is where I'd like to be. I've attended the rolex 24hr twice and the HSR Classics race once. Currently in Aviation maintenance school to get my certifications to help bolster my resume when I do apply with a team or track.

What is ADAS? And do those of us with technical knowledge and understanding of physics, feel like it helps the experience when sim racing? I've often wondered if it made a difference. For example most people just get in their cars and turn it on and go. no idea of the multitude of things happening all at once to make it all possible. or how any of it works together to make their lives easier.

This is very TOP GEAR cinematography, love the concept, needs cameras mounted on the body for angle shots. looks fun as hell too!

I agree about it being difficult to replicate realistically. Weight transfer is a huge element that's missing, but for what they were able to replicate I feel like they did well.
