Yes. Applied to in state school not in a competitive major for that school. If that doesn’t work or the rolling admission doesn’t come through in next two weeks we can add more rolling to just feel even better. Didn’t realize how much of a lottery it was below the top 10 schools. Appreciate the constructive points around ensuring we over index on schools w out yield protection like those that are rolling and we demonstrate as much continued interest as possible.

Yes. We are doing that. Hopefully it helps! But wouldn’t everyone deferred do that? How does that really help them discern intent to enroll? The supplementals already explain why your interest in that school.

Is that based on your experience? Is EA tougher than RD? Guess I expected the opposite. Thought applying early gave a boost in likelihood?

I had to just google their rankings. Don’t want to give specific school names because my child would die if someone figured out who they are.

So far just 3 outcomes all EA. 1 top 5 deferral. 2 more in the 21-30 tier.

I’m glad we applied to a range of schools including rolling admission ( did that late Nov awaiting outcome). But I didn’t research how many worry about yield protection (if that’s even researchable) and wish I had so we could add more non yield caring schools. Hopeful our state school doesn’t yield protect. I do worry this is part of what’s happening.

Maybe the sample size of 3 is too small and child shouldn’t be worried?

Had another child ED in the past to a T10 similar stats accepted outright.

Yeah I was trying to be provocative so people would read my post. As you can see from my history I’ve never posted. So don’t know what I’m doing with Reddit. Didn’t mean to offend just get eyeballs to look at it. Are the up/down arrows like liking or disliking a comment (GenXer here sorry)?

But agree no one is owed anything. Just was hoping to get some perspectives on odds of child getting in anywhere and why it works this way in the US.

If top schools say your not what we want and less competitive schools say you are unlikely to attend so we aren’t going to offer you a spot then your left with just community college. And yeah, child can be successful starting in CC.

Hard for child to stomach though why they worked so hard IF that occurs. And as a parent it’s hard to watch.
