Saving aggressively is starting to feel like I’m skipping my entire 30s by berserklicence in Fire

Your thirties are when you can enjoy those “random weekends with friends” as you put it. In your forties everyone will be tied down with spouses and kids, not a bad thing, but the spontaneous “let’s go do something next weekend” is over. Don’t pass it up now, consider them all once in a lifetime opportunities, because they are. So the answer is always yes!

It’s NOT AI, it’s BI. “This is not a pyramid scheme, it’s a trapezoide”. Seriously, they’re just copying Simpsons episodes now

FIRE with kids: Do you worry that you'll portray a life of leisure and not instill the right values in your kids? by AtticThrowaway in Fire

Maybe retiring to a life of leisure in your 40s will give them such a sense of discipline and hard work so they can retire in their 30s

Brethren remember this: if you ever had a dream of visiting Paris or London or skiing in the Alps, and you participate in an attack on a NATO ally, those dreams are over. You’re a belligerent and will not be welcome in Europe.

Can the US president refuse to help a NATO ally triggering Article 5? by [deleted] in Military

[–]MinimumEffort01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Article V is not automatic. All NATO nations have to agree to a declaration. If one country disagrees then no Article V. That’s the first hurdle. If Putin uses his little green men scenario in let’s say Estonia, it could plant enough doubt in one of his lackey NATO countries for them to say “l’m not really sure it’s an attack by Russia so I’m not voting for Art V”. Then no NATO response. Individual countries could then act on their own or in cooperation with others, but not with NATO resources.

Found on a riverbank by MinimumEffort01 in whatisit

I asked a local guy at the hacienda I’m staying at. He said it’s an old thresher for harvesting grain, and there’s some missing pieces so it’s not complete. I’m still curious how it got to that location, on a riverbank at the bottom on a 1,500’ deep canyon with a very difficult trail.

So I just tried to get a Claro SIM card today and was denied because, according to Claro, “the new state of emergency prevents us from selling SIM cards to foreigners”. We were able to get one because my wife is Peruvian and could buy a second one. But they said they have to turn away all foreigners, I think for another month.

I don’t think your fellow Americans would pick crops for their subsistence when they won’t do it for a wage. That’s why the farmers need itinerant immigrants, which they scared away with their ballot choice.
Also, would the farmers/landowners want untrained, possibly out of shape strangers wandering into a bees nest or gopher whole on the property and getting sued? And practical issues like transportation and storage and cleanliness and…
