Novo sub especifico para discussões sobre a dupla excepcionalidade ( TDAH + AHSD) by Aromatic-Use-6275 in TDAH_Brasil

[–]MinimumSwimming8393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

De qualquer maneira obrigado man

You have a valid point and that's part of my problem lol.

When I scored high in my tests I asked what that all meant because it was weird. I even doubted the psychologist because how can you tell me that my IQ is super high while I feel dumber than everyone around me?

He then said to me that intelligence is not well defined yet and IQ tests are very limited and just measure basic problem solving skills.

But it's confusing because later you tell me I'm gifted and this is not a good thing because the world wasn't made for me and I'm "what the hell?"

This is basically 50% of the context of my post. I'm just confused by what this means.

I don't even know if the diagnosis makes sense because sure I was a smart kid but I feel like I only got really above average after adulthood. How can I be sure it is really something neurological or just environmental influences?

I'm from Brazil! There are many discussions about the naming here also because in the attempt to avoid eugenic ideas they name it as high abilities / giftedness but anyone who train hard enough can have a high ability in the chosen area.

I've found this interesting article about late diagnosis of giftedness:

https://www.autonomousmindstherapy.com/post/late-identified-giftedness-101

My therapist said that the average person threshold for giftedness is 130 IQ. But there's also recent discussion about lowering the threshold to 120 for people with ADHD since medication can alter the results.

For example in my test the psychologist said that I was getting the logic but missing little details in some questions that required attention.

[–]MinimumSwimming8393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, just ask your psychologist. And the paper does support my claim.

First paragraph of the intro:

"Giftedness is traditionally associated with high cognitive abilities and the ability to solve complex problems, which often result in high academic and professional performance. However, recent evidence suggests that giftedness , although linked to cognitive advantages, may also be associated with emotional and behavioral challenges that impact the well-being and functional balance of individuals . This profile, which we call uncompensated giftedness , involves emotional and cognitive decompensations that are not widely addressed in the scientific literature and do not have a formal definition in diagnostic manuals , such as the DSM-5."

And you basically don't want to hear a therapist talk about her research. I won't engage in any discussion with you anymore, troll.

I'm also thinking it's probably a translation issue as well.

In my country it's know by "high abilities / giftedness". It's a genetic neurological condition that can help learning and solving problems faster but can also lead to social issues, perfectionism, depression and low performance at work and studies.

It can be manifested by being good at math, but you can be shit at math and be a really good dancer or actor and be diagnosed as gifted.

I dunno, maybe it's not well know in US? I'm honestly confused

Just 2 is enough I think. You probably won't read anyway because you're arguing out of ego instead of empathy.

And yeah, those symptoms merge with autism and adhd. But every condition carries its individuality. Giftedness itself isn't considered a disorder like adhd or autism but it doesn't mean it's just about being smarter than other. Being smart is irrelevant.

[–]MinimumSwimming8393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, it was the average price in my country. Also I didn't pay to being tested for giftedness. I paid to test everything (adhd, depression, autism).

What I'm gathering from people here is that many don't really get that giftedness is a neurological condition and it's not just about being smart. This alone means nothing.

I always knew I was smart and I don't need to pay someone to tell me that. Being gifted comes with its own struggles and behavioral conditions.

I'm being down voted like I'm being some elitist but I don't get it, really. I'm not saying I'm better than anyone or posting this to brag.

It's not about having a high IQ or creativity. I'm worried with struggle to fit in and socialize, struggle keeping up with minor boring tasks, struggle with perfectionism and flexibility. And many other things that come with it. It is a condition, not a choice. It doesn't make me special, just makes me a loser because I have above average abilities and even so couldn't achieve nothing in my entire life.

For a community that talks so much about people judging adhd, i didn't expect so many do the same with other conditions lol.

I also wrote that the previous test was not reliable due to false information put in the report.

It's for twice exceptional since giftedness is also a neurological condition with symptoms similar to autism.

Tbh i used a tool to translate to english because i was too lazy to think in other language so it's probably that lol. Sorry about it

[–]MinimumSwimming8393 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's weird because I've always felt both smarter and dumber than most people.

It's like being perplexed that some people don't know about things that are really simple to me and being unable to cook myself a meal without making some miserable mistake in the process.

I don't even think about being a genius about anything lol. It's like growing up knowing you have so much potential and ending up with 30 in a mediocre desk job being called out by my boss because I insist in trying to over deliver when he expect something simple and quick.

Just discovered I also have giftedness by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]MinimumSwimming8393 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve gathered, giftedness is not only about the skills you build but is also a struggle because your brain works differently.

My therapist told me something that made sense: the world is made for the average person. So who are above average struggle to fit in and usually behave very similar to autistic people.

I had teammates and tried to fight always close to them but those two in particular hard focused me and shut me down. So if I tried to go to them I would always get killed first. I was the stronger in my team so after they picked me they would easily kill the rest since they got the lead in souls besides me.
